If you were a victim of, or were displaced by, the flooding of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers (or of relevant tributaries) in 1993, you should contact the Federal Emergency Management Administration and ask for a RETROACTIVE DEBIT CARD of $2,000 value.
Remember
22 09 2005In the coming weeks, we will hear a lot of people point a lot of fingers. Most of those fingers will be pointed at President Bush’s Iraq policy, it will be blamed for the fact that there were not enough National Guard personnel in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Not true.
There was a sufficient National Guard and police presence in the first few days after the hurricane passed and the Ponchatrain levees broke and flooded most of the city. But remember, for those first few days, the N.G. and the police were given stand-down orders, orders not to shoot at anyone. And when you give our darker bretheren the satisfaction to know that the big bad white po-leeeceses won’t hurt them, they will think they can get away with anything, and they did get away with a lot.
Cable news anchors were “surprised” that the looters were so audacious that they would loot in the obvious presence of the Guard and police. But now you know that it is not a surprise.
Also you should remember that various levels of Government really did not “drop the ball” or “act slowly” in attempting to truck in aid and rescue efforts. They could not get in because our darker bretheren made the flooded city too dangerous to go into.
It wasn’t until the 82nd Airborne went in with real shoot-to-kill orders that we were able to re-conquer Fallujah Orleans, and only then did the rescue and aid effort begin to sprint.

Irony
22 09 2005Hey you, St. Louisian: Don’t you think it’s ironic that some New Orleans refugees, who were forced out of their city because of a breach of a flood wall, will be housed at the old Gumbo jail, a facility that hasn’t been a functioning jail since 1993, as in that summer the flooding rivers breached a flood wall and inundated the Chesterfield Valley?

School Days, Good Ole Uniform Days
7 09 2005As this August nears to an end, and more and more public school districts in the area re-open, one should notice all the high school aged students that are wearing school uniforms.
This webmaster is thinking about this issue because of all the hulabaloo over the new quasi-uniform policy in the Belleville district over on the East Side.
Have you noticed that the public districts that mandate uniforms seem to be in near north St. Louis county, and parts of the East Side close to East St. Louis?
Have you also noticed that districts like Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt, St. Charles, Rockwood, Parkway, Arnold and Northwest are not clammoring for school uniforms?
Why is that? Somebody help me out here!
(Rhetorical question, obviously.)

Not the First Person
7 09 2005Anybody who is fuming over Pat Robertson’s remarks on THE 700 CLUB that Venezuela’s neo-Marxist President Hugo Chavez should be executed is naive.
I don’t believe that he’s the first person to think of this idea.
If you’re upset over Pat Robertson’s remarks, that probably means that you’re so naive as to think that the CIA hasn’t already begun to hatch assassination attempts on Chavez.

The Duh Files
7 09 2005Here is a recent excerpt from a Canton, Ohio newspaper:
CANTON, Ohio — There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, according to a recent report in the Canton Repository…..The article reported that some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame…..School officials are not sure what has caused so many pregnancies…..
Not sure what caused so many pregancies?
I thought we learned this lesson when we were all about 12 years old, give or take a year or so. And as I remember, a movie, a TV set, or a video game is not an integral part of the process.
According to its website, one Kim Redmond is the Principal of the School.
Redmond’s e-mail address is listed as: redmond_k@ccsdistrict.org
You might want to e-mail Redmond and include these links your e-mail:
http://health.howstuffworks.com/adam-200107.htm
http://science.howstuffworks.com/human-reproduction.htm
As “Kim” is an ambiguous first name, I am not sure (and the school’s website does not indicate) whether it’s Mr. Redmond or Miss Redmond, so I would use “Principal Redmond:” or “Greetings:” or something of the like as the greeting in your e-mail.
Won’t you help us enlighten that school’s administration?
