There goes Hazelwood. Ford is moving out, and Nelly is moving in.
St. Louis native and rapper Nelly, known on his birth certificate as Cornell Haynes, Jr., is going into the restaurant business with four of his rap cohorts. The quintet have purchased an empty restaurant building along Howdershell Road in Hazelwood, and will soon be converting it into a somewhat conventional bar and grill atmosphere. Whether or not the place will offer free refills on the Pimp Juice remains to be seen.
If any of you were thinking that we could hold our monthly meetings there when it opens, I think it’s out of the question.
Hazelwood Mayor T.R. Carr apparently took time away from his futile efforts to keep the Ford plant in his city open to tell the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that one member of the Hazelwood City Council wanted the restaurant to post a “No Marijuana Smoking” sign at the restaurant entrance.
If not, then maybe the bar and grill could be named “Mary Jane’s Place.”
