Real Life Cruella DeVil

5 03 2007

And they both look to be non-white men. And the dogs are Yorkshire Terriers. Thankfully, the puppies probably weren’t destined to become a fur coat.

AP:

Four purebred Yorkshire terriers stolen at gunpoint during a home invasion robbery more than a week ago were returned to their owners after a man turned himself in to police.

Three puppies, valued at $2,500 each, and a full-grown family pet named Tan-ja were reunited with their owners at the Wilshire Division police station Saturday night. One puppy remained missing, police said.

Family members hugged and kissed the panting pups and left the police station with the dogs in their arms.

The animals were recovered after Ryan Betton, 19, of Los Angeles, surrendered to police Friday night, Detective Luis Corona said. A second suspect, 23-year-old Troy Cabral, turned himself in Sunday morning.

Both men were booked for investigation of residential robbery and released on $100,000 bail.

A videotape of the robbery that aired on local television brought in many tips, including telephone calls that sent police to the home of Betton’s father, Corona said. The father confronted his son, which led to “the son being brought in to the station to turn himself in,” Corona said.

I have a mental image of Mr. Betton the elder literally dragging Mr. Betton the younger by the ear in a police station.

Here’s streaming video of the that home’s surveillance cameras.

Indianapolis Star Admits to (and Justifies) Covering Up Black Crime

5 03 2007

Because they don’t want to stereotype young black men as criminals.

Is this a mainline newspaper that is trying to peddle the notion that all right-wingers are violent insurrectionist-minded genocide-happy fascists?

SiteCoach Confesses to Being an Illegal Internet Content Filter

5 03 2007

Illegal for public institutions for use.

See this post from V-Dare.

Because SiteCoach specifically states that it’s out to censor certain types of political content, then SiteCoach cannot be used in public institutions (schools, libraries). Political content is specifically (“fully”) protected speech. Also, since SiteCoach says out and out right that they censor right-wing sites, then using SiteCoach at a public library or school could also violate the Federal 14th Amendment.

As you know, the Council of Conservative Citizens has recently become very interested in public libraries’ web censorship, and will soon become interested in public schools doing the same.

Course Title Inflation

5 03 2007

You’ve heard of grade inflation, and if you possess a shred of intellectual honesty, you know that it’s more prevalent in schools with high percentages of racial minorities.

Now there’s another angle to the scam. It’s called course title inflation, where classes are given names suggesting that the content is more difficult than it actually is.

Yank Her Yankee Passport

5 03 2007

KSDK:

It’s time for spring break and tens of thousands of college students are taking part in the annual tradition of traveling to hot spots such as Florida and Mexico. But there are new rules this year regarding passports

Students at St. Louis University are just a week away from spring break. Domestic as well as international destinations are on lots of travel agendas.

Some students are going to Panama City, Fla., while several other students will visit Panama City, Panama. And because it’s overseas, a passport is required.

I can think of one young lady that didn’t deserve a passport.  Others like her shouldn’t get one either lest everybody on Earth will hate us.

From the Mind of Somebody Named Barack

5 03 2007

From Sen. Barack Obama’s Selma address:

It’s because they marched that we elected councilmen, congressmen. It is because they marched that we have Artur Davis and Keith Ellison. It is because they marched that I got the kind of education I got, a law degree, a seat in the Illinois senate and ultimately in the United States senate.

The “civil rights movement” of the 1960s, symbolized by Obama’s citations of the Selma march, is overrated in terms of them actually accomplishing their goals. The civil rights legislative victories happened because of white liberals and the white plutocracy.

It worried folks in the White House who said, “You know, we’re battling Communism. How are we going to win hearts and minds all across the world? If right here in our own country, John, we’re not observing the ideals set fort in our Constitution, we might be accused of being hypocrites.” So the Kennedy’s decided we’re going to do an air lift. We’re going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is.

This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child.

So we have John F. Kennedy to thank for you.

John Edwards’s “Two Americas Acres” Soon to Become Homeless Shelter

5 03 2007

AP:

Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.

Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country’s willingness to go to war “when it’s not necessary.”

“I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs,” Edwards told the site. “I think he would be appalled, actually.”

Does this mean that this place will soon become a homeless shelter?

Bill Gates Calls for “Competitiveness” (Even As His Company’s Anti-Virus Program Can’t Compete)

5 03 2007

Reuters:

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT – news) Chairman Bill Gates will testify Wednesday at a congressional hearing on American business competitiveness, the Senate Health, Education and Labor Committee said on Friday.

Gates will discuss the importance of immigration reforms to allow more computer scientists and engineers to work in the United States and the need for better math and science education in U.S. schools, the committee said in a statement.

Now I know what he means by “competitiveness.” It means increasing the supply of software engineers by means of creating more H-1-B visas so that they can all compete for lower and lower salaries. That negates any improvement in “math and science education” in American schools that Mr. Gates thinks we need, and which wouldn’t do American students any good anyway, in the face of increased foreign competition.

Perhaps Mr. Gates should be more focus on “competitiveness” in the area of anti-virus programs.

Selma Funnies

5 03 2007

On HRC and BHO’s speeches yesterday in Selma, Alabama to largely black audiences commemorating the “Bloody Sunday” civil rights march:

* Mrs. Clinton’s phony black southern accent goes to show you how infatuated black people are with the Clinton gang. Not a one of them (so it seems) was insulted by the whole charade. If any white Republican tried to mock the black southern accent, they would never hear the end of it.

* Mr. Obama, in his continuing effort to show that he’s “down with the brothers,” tried his best to speak Ebonics. This was in the same speech where he complained about anti-intellectualism among American blacks.

* BHO also tried to claim that the only reason his black Kenyan father and his white Kansan mother were able to marry and thus produce him was because of the civil rights victories earned by the Selma marchers. The inconvenient truth of the matter is that “Bloody Sunday” was in 1965, and BHO was born in 1961. Even at that, Obama Sr. and the former Ann Dunham met and wed in Hawaii, which in those years, and unlike the American South up until Federal civil rights acts nullified them, probably didn’t have anti-miscegenation laws due to its Polynesian majority.

* The aborticide industry is probably mad today at Mr. Obama. When he talked about absent fathers, he said that “fatherhood does not end at conception,” implying that conceived fetuses are human beings and not just unviable issue masses.

The Eagleton Affair

5 03 2007

What is most noteworthy about the late Tom Eagleton’s political career, mostly as a Democratic U.S. Senator from Missouri, is not that he received shock therapy for depression in the 1960s, the news of which forced him to resign as George McGovern’s running mate.

The real Eagleton legacy is that he had to resort to blatantly dishonest and deceitful tactics to win re-election to the Senate in 1980 for what turned out to be his final term before political retirement, and that he screwed his niece and nephew out of their rightful share of their father’s (Eagleton’s brother’s) estate.

* 1980 was year was when Ronald Reagan’s landslide Presidential victory had coattails so wide that it swung 12 U.S. Senate seats from D to R, and 30 House seats that way. In Missouri, Eagleton, the incumbent, faced a very strong Republican challenge from then-St. Louis County Executive Gene McNary. Remember, this was 1980, when St. Louis County was prosperous and Republican.

As it turned out, Eagleton won narrowly, but he had to trick certain white voters in the St. Louis area in order to pull it off. Four days before the election, his campaign sent out a mass mailing to largely white zip codes in St. Louis City and County, touting the supposed fact that Eagleton was against school busing for racial integration, and the literature even used the anti-busing logo of the anti-busing activist forces in St. Louis. (That wasn’t the only time pro-busing forces stole the anti-busing logo to trick anti-busing whites).

The trick worked, and that was the last time Tom Eagleton made any hints about being opposed to busing and deseg.

* Not long after Eagleton resigned from the McGovern ticket in 1972, he was appointed as the trustee of his brother’s estate, which involved a manufacturing firm in St. Louis that the brother started.  The terms of the estate were that the brother’s two children, Eagleton’s niece and nephew, were to get the lion’s share.  Eagleton himself drug his feet and failed to carry out his duties as guardian of the estate, and the niece and nephew threatened to tell the media about Eagleton’s  homosexual proclivities (he liked those Key West, Florida vacations) if he didn’t give them their rightful shares.  Eagleton used his sway over the U.S. Attorney’s Office in St. Louis to get them to charge the niece and nephew with blackmail, and they were convicted and sent to Federal prison.  Meanwhile, Eagleton kept most if not all of his brother’s estate.

Faulty Causation

5 03 2007

Dr. Norman C. Francis, President of Xavier University of New Orleans, will be the keynote speaker at tonight’s annual dinner of the Urban League of St. Louis, in downtown St. Louis.

In his keynote address, Dr. Francis is expected to make the case that the high rate of illegitimacy in the black community is the direct cause of the excessive high school dropout rate in the same.

What I would be curious to know is the high school dropout rate for people born of unwed parents, classified by race, and the high school dropout rate for people born to married parents, also classified by race. I think we would find that the differences between racial groups in either wed or unwed column are wider than the differences between wed and unwed in any single racial row.

An Impossible Job

5 03 2007

AP:

NAACP President Bruce S. Gordon said Sunday he is leaving the civil rights organization after just 19 months at the helm, citing clashes with board members over management style and the organization’s mission as the reasons.

(snip)

Bond has acknowledged that, with 64 members, the NAACP’s board of directors is large and sometimes unwieldy. But he often says this allows a wide range of members’ voices to be heard.

What it allows is for a “wide range of members” to get sinecures, paid for by generous corporate grants and fungible government contributions.

No wonder the NAACP can’t hold down a President for very long. When there’s 64 egos gnawing at your face, it’ll drive you nuts.

Walter Reed Hospital Fit Hits the Shan

5 03 2007

AP:

As several House committees prepared to delve into the scandal at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, outraged lawmakers vowed quick action and called for an independent commission to examine poor conditions for soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s national security panel, headed by Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., scheduled a hearing at the hospital’s auditorium Monday morning. The list of Army officials, hospital staff and patients invited to speak includes the medical center’s previous commander, Maj. Gen. George Weightman.

The defense subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee also scheduled a hearing on Walter Reed for Monday.

In a letter Sunday to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., asked for an independent commission, possibly headed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, to investigate all post-combat medical facilities and recommend changes.

“To think that men and women are serving their country in the most honorable and courageous way possible and all we give them is a dilapidated, rat-infested, run-down building to recover is a disgrace,” Schumer wrote. “My fear is that Walter Reed is just the tip of the iceberg, and merely highlights the pervasive and systemic mistreatment of our service members.”

And yet, most of these same Democrats who want an investigation over the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed, (and they’re doing so just to embarrass the Bush White House), also want universal health care (read: essentially making the entire American health care system a Federal government agency), and as Walter Reed’s problems were in part caused by bureaucracy, every hospital and clinic in the country will be like Walter Reed if Schumer, Tierney et al. get their way.

Another taboo factor in the Walter Reed scandal, and one that is probably more likely to be true, as Walter Reed is a Federal government operation and is in Washington D.C., and also ironic in that Democrats are demanding these hearings, is affirmative action in hiring and promotion.

The Far-Left Tax

5 03 2007

McPaper:

Buy an airline ticket online, and you’re increasingly likely to see this pitch: Add a payment of a few dollars, and finance save-the-Earth activities to offset environmental damage caused by your trip.

Travel companies such as British Airways and travel sites Travelocity and Expedia are giving ticket purchasers the chance to at least assuage guilt, and possibly help the planet, by selling so-called offsets to finance green activism. Cost: About $5 and up.

It would finance neo-Marxist political agitation.

“Carbon offsets.” Is that like Al Gore buying fictitious permission from himself to let his mansion near Nashville be an energy hog?
