Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, both already under siege for other matters, are now being accused of failing to prosecute officers of the Texas Youth Commission after a Texas Ranger investigation documented that guards and administrators were sexually abusing the institution’s minor boy inmates.
While I have no love for Alberto Gonzales or Johnny Suttonfong, especially the latter for his persecution of U.S. Border Patrol guards and local law enforcement authorities for their having done their proper jobs vis-a-vis illegal aliens, I have to defend them here.
If there is going to be charges filed in the TYC scandal, they should be state charges. I don’t understand how guard-on-inmate abuse within Texas is a Federal matter.
