Deal Clincher

3 05 2007

James “The Gay American” McGreevey, former Governor of New Jersey (presumably one that always wore his seat belt), has been accepted to Episcopal seminary in New York City.

The “gay” part on his application probably cinched the deal.

For Our Posterity

3 05 2007

Microsoft UK and the British Library are teaming up to collect and catalog today’s e-mails among Britons in sort of a digital time capsule for the edification of future generations and their historians and cultural anthropologists.

I doubt that early 21st Century Britain will want to be remembered for its male organ-enhancing snake oil, its pump-and-dump stock scams and (ironic, considering Microsoft is involved in this project) its software piracy “warez d00dz.”

Truckin’ His Way to Federal Prison

Robert “Tractor” Traylor, a seven-year NBA journeyman, who played college basketball at the University of Michigan, will soon be going to Federal prison for his part in helping his cousin launder drug money.

Farmington Today, Bangalore Tomorrow

3 05 2007

P-D:

About 130 employees at a call center complained of breathing troubles and irritation to their eyes Wednesday and were taken to hospitals, some traveling in school buses.

All 338 employees on duty at ACCENT Marketing Services were evacuated about 2 p.m. from the building, in the Farmington Industrial Park in the southwest part of the city. ACCENT’s operation in Farmington handles incoming customer calls for Sprint Nextel Corp.

KTVI-Fox-2 reported this morning that the call center has now been decontaminated and reopened. When this story first broke, I suspicioned that the corporate suits would use this contamination as an excuse to outsource the work to Bangalore.

Suspicious Video Game Mods Can Get You Arrested

3 05 2007

A Chinese-American high school senior from suburban Houston was arrested and expelled from school for creating a simulated game environment (“mod”) of his high school for a shoot-em-up video game he likes.

I tend to think that authorities were overreacting in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre and the racial similarities between the young men.

PGR: Parental Guidance Required

3 05 2007

These are scanned-in images of the color two-fold brochure that are being handed out at the St. Louis Galleria shopping mall. As you can see, its purpose is to advertise the Galleria’s new U-17 policy.

There is something wrong with these pictures. You only get one guess, but plenty of hints.

What’s that you say?  That the photos in the brochure are not indicative of the kind of the people whose crimes and outlandish behavior forced the Galleria management to enact this policy?

Right you are.
