OCALA, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy was growing marijuana on vacant property owned by Ocala’s deputy police chief, authorities said. Deputy Chief Greg Graham said he was told about the plants by neighbors on Saturday. He had bought the lot two months ago as an investment, the Ocala Star-Banner reported. Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confiscated nine potted marijuana plants on the lot.

Graham said he has known the teen, who was not identified because of his age, for several years.

“I have no idea why he picked my property,” Graham said.

My best guess is that he figured that nobody would suspicion that anyone would have the brass to do this kind of thing on land owned by a high-ranking cop.

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) – With more than half of mankind already living in cities and towns, the urban poor must be part of any solution to climate change, a top UN official said here Wednesday.

Addressing the opening session of the UN commission on sustainable development here, Anna Tibaijuka, executive director of the Nairobi-based UN Habitat agency, said that cities “are part of the problem and part of the solution to climate change.”

“The urban poor have to be part of the equation,” she later told reporters, adding that “without sustainable urbanization, sustainable development could well prove elusive.”

If the American “urban poor” (read: blacks) are included in this citation, then it’s not a wrong-headed thing to do.  I have found that, adjusting for a lot of factors, they tend to be far more wasteful of energy than other Americans.  And for many of them, thanks to white pity and white financial assistance, there are virtually no financial consequences to their waste.

US inmate executed despite appeals

A man convicted of killing a police officer was executed early on Wednesday in Tennessee despite objections from defense lawyers questioning his guilt in the case, authorities said.

Philip Workman, 53, was declared dead at 1:38 a.m. (0538 GMT) after receiving a lethal injection of three drugs at a prison in Nashville.

Like, DUH. Does anyone actually think that his defense lawyers were going to say that their client was guilty? I didn’t read of Richard Franklin being on his defense team, so the obvious answer is no.

Other articles I have read stated that this was only the fourth execution in Tennessee since 1960, and the third since 2000. With executions being rare in the state, one would think that the national MSM would make a big deal out of it, and that there would be thousands upon thousands of death penalty opponents outside of the prison burning candles in vigil.

There were not, and here’s the reason why:

VINELAND, Minn. – The 11-year-old boy was led from his school in handcuffs, held overnight in a juvenile detention center, and hauled into court in shackles and an orange prison jumpsuit.

His crime? Missing a court date to testify as the victim of an assault.

The treatment of the boy, a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, has reignited a decades-old feud between the tribe and officials from the surrounding county in central Minnesota.

This seems so ironically creepy. I always thought that a victim that wouldn’t testify would just lead to there being no case against the defendant. And perhaps the victim here feared being a victim of violent retribution.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Churches in five big U.S. cities plan to protect illegal immigrants from deportation, offering their buildings as sanctuary if need be, as they pressure lawmakers to create a path to citizenship for the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

Beginning Wednesday, a Catholic church in Los Angeles and a Lutheran church in North Hollywood each intend to shelter one person, and churches in other cities plan to do so in coming months as part of the “New Sanctuary Movement.”

“We want to put a human face to very complex immigration laws and awaken the consciousness of the human spirit,” said Father Richard Estrada of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Los Angeles, where one illegal immigrant will live.

Organizers don’t believe immigration agents will make arrests inside the churches.

And they’re probably right. For the same reason, even though these 501-c-3 tax exempt churches are conspiring to obstruct justice, they will not have their tax exempt status yanked.

If white Southern Baptist churches in Mississippi or Alabama publicly and knowingly gave sanctuary to those wanted for civil rights violations against non-whites, how long would they remain tax exempt institutions? For that matter, how long would their buildings remain standing?

In most cases, those T-shirts have been prepared well in advance, and they’re made up for both teams winning.

Whatever becomes of those ‘other’ shirts for the losing team?

In the case of the shirts printed for last year’s Super Bowl losers, they ended up in Africa thanks to the charity organization World Vision and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has signed into law the anti-illegal immigration package that the state’s legislature passed last month.

How does this affect my prediction that he is potential running mate material for HRC? I think this actually helps his chances of actually being picked, because Henry on the ticket would be spun as an example of HRC’s “moderation” and her “willingness” to listen to anti-immigration positions.
