It Was a Miscarriage, But Not For Race

Genarlow Wilson, a 21-year old inmate at a Georgia prison who drew a ten-year term for statutory rape of a 15-year old white girl at a party when he was 17,  had his conviction overturned by a Georgia trial-level judge.

The case was a cause celebre for NAACP-types in Georgia and across the nation, because they thought the interracial nature of the statutory rape meant that the authorities were throwing the book at him.  While this sentence and the underlying crime is a bit of a legal travesty, the NAACP-types are inserting racial interpretations where there should be none.

In some states, including Missouri, their relationship would not have been a crime.
