This Parental Guidance Not Desired

2 01 2008

Because shopping malls are not governments, they have greater leeway in establishing and enforcing codes of conduct and deportment. So they can toss out people wearing saggy or droopy pants.

Frantz Leger, presumably a college-age man living in Palm Beach County, Florida, was recently banned from a mall in the county because of his droopy pants. When he tried to go back, the cops popped him for trespassing. When his family found out, his mother (left), father (center) and sister (right) rushed to the mall to raise hell, and the cops popped them for disorderly conduct.

UPDATE 7:30 PM:  The younger Mr. Leger is a 20-year old business major at Florida State University.  I find it ironic that a B-school student can’t obey the “Rules of Common Courtesy” of a shopping mall.

Not only did his father, mother and sister come to the mall to cause trouble, but two of his cousins came as well.

Quotes of the day awards to go Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy, Lt. Jay Hart.  He said, “It’s a family affair. They get to spend the holiday in jail together,” and “The mall doesn’t put up with that tomfoolery bullcrap ….. His pants were down below his butt. No one goes to the mall and wants to see the crack of someone’s butt.”  Hmm, “crack of someone’s butt.”  That might be the solution to the vagueness problems of existing anti-sagging ordinances.

The family members are relatively recent “arrivals” from Haiti.  Whether they are here legally or illegally was not stated, but if it’s the latter, then the mother’s rant about her and her family being treated like “second-class citizens” is wrong in two ways.  Nevertheless, both the mother and the father have rap sheets.
