From the Frying Pan to the Fire – Lurch to SFRC – “Nappy” to HLS

20 11 2008

The good news:  Joe Biden won’t be heading the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, now that he will be VP.

The bad news:  John F’n Kerry will slide into that spot.

To think, the SFRC was once run by Jesse Helms.  Once he retired in 2002, Dick Lugar, a RINO who is rumored to be going onto the BHO cabinet, slid in.  Of all the SFRC chairmen since 1981, only one didn’t have a five letter long surname.

The bad news is that amnestyaire Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (right) will become Obama’s HLS Secretary, Obama being the first President other than the President when HLS was elevated to cabinet-level to choose a leader for the Department.  The good news is that it gets her out of Phoenix, and, because the state has no Lieutenant Governor, the longest-serving statewide office holder at the time of the sitting Governor’s departure becomes Governor.  (E.g. if Missouri had this rule, a Matt Blunt resignation would automatically make Jay Nixon, who has been AG since 1992, the Governor.)  In this case, Secretary of State Jan Brewer (R), who would be the state’s third straight woman governor.  And, according to my sources, far better on the immigration issue than either Napolitano or her predecessor, Jane Hull.
