I Went to See a Gang Fight, and a Basketball Game Broke Out

26 01 2009

One of the news items that featured prominently in St. Louis during the weekend was a fight in the stands of a basketball game at Cahokia High School on Friday night, one that eventually led to gunplay and the eventual death of one LaShane Whitney, 17.  We are told that Mr. Whitney was expelled last month from Cahokia High.

For a black guy to be expelled by black administrators from a black school is an astonishing feat.  He must have done something really beyond the pale.

In related news upstate, the Chicago Public Schools will almost entirely prohibit fans of the road team to attend away venues during the basketball season.  Also, the start times of weekday games will be no later than 4 PM.  Of course, fights and crime are the reason.  A CPS bureaucrat, speaking on the subject, said that “everybody knows where the issues are.”  Do they?  Perhaps they do, but they’re precluded from doing anything about the issues by the dictates of political correctness, especially in an intensely black/liberal city like Chicagograd.
