Too Good To Be True

The good news is that the East Bridgewater (Mass.) Savings Bank is on good financial ground, mainly because they avoided drawing risky mortgages earlier this decade.  The bad news is that they’re on good financial ground mainly because they avoided giving out affirmative action welfare mortgages to favored minorities earlier this decade.  Guess whether the FDIC gravitates toward the good news or the bad news.

And guess which Federal agency charged with insuring bank deposits is running out of money, because many banks are going bust because of the affirmative action welfare mortgages that the East Bridgewater Savings Bank was wise enough not to draw.  Oh the irony of it all.

St. Ann Doesn’t Condone Any of its Cops Disrespecting Its Many Predatory Thug Babies That They Have to Arrest Often

IMHO, the suspects got off easy.

If I Could Be Like Mike…

18 03 2009

…I too could buy my way into the city changing its charter so that I can be Mayor for life.

Interestingly, New York City is under the supervision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Justice Department of the government that this Bald Eagle represents had to approve this change in New York City’s charter.  Those who wanted the DOJ to reject the change argued that a two-term limit has the disparate and marginal impact of precluding incumbency and therefore opening the field for non-white candidates.

What gets me is that Bloomberg is as left wing as a Republican can get, so he probably worries about white racism.  But his own city must be white racist enough such that the DOJ considers it on par with the Mississippi Delta, in terms of their making sure black and other minority voters and machines are able to commit voter fraud.

So I’m glad for him that he found someone, and more importantly, someone of his own age.  We know for sure that they’ll be with each other every step of the way going forward, and that they will grow old together.

The only thing I wonder is this:  Have they consummated the relationship yet?

Really Forbidden Fruit Is Really Tempting to the Young

17 03 2009

Reuters:

German teens drawn to neo-Nazi groups – study

BERLIN (Reuters) – Roughly one in twenty 15-year-old German males is a member of a neo-Nazi group, a higher proportion than are involved in mainstream politics, according to a study released on Tuesday.

Many politicians fear a resurgence of right-wing extremism as unemployment creeps higher in Germany, which is facing its deepest recession since World War Two. Government figures have shown anti-Semitic crimes rose at the end of last year.

“It is shocking that right-wing groups have more success recruiting male youths than the established political parties,” said Christian Pfeiffer, author of the report issued by Lower Saxony’s criminal research instute.

(snip)

The study, conducted in 2007 and 2008, also revealed that neo Nazi-symbols — in either rock music, stickers or special clothing — were used by one in 10 of the youths surveyed. The swastika and other Nazi symbols are banned in Germany.

You’ve heard the phrase forbidden fruit is tempting to the young?  Well, Nazi-era fascism is so prohibited in Germany that it’s actually illegal.  FGS, they’re 15 years old, they’re only rebelling.  Check back in 20 years and see how many of them are still Nazis.  Similarly, all those white 17-year olds listening to rap music and mouthing off about the evils of white racism will be listening to a different tune and singing a different tune in 20 years.  There’s just something about turning 30…

It’s so much an object of rebellion to be a Nazi that there are a surprising number of Jewish (especially Jewish American) teenagers that are becoming Nazis.  An example would be Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine shooters of almost ten years ago now (geezo, ten years, where’d they go?) — he played around with Nazi symbols and language mainly to shock his grandmother, who was a Holocaust death camp survivor.

Wolfgang Schaeuble, Germany’s interior minister, said at the presentation of the state-sponsored report he would push for the creation of more sports clubs in regions with social problems.

No, what you ought to do is make sports more illegal than Naziism, then all the 15-year olds will quit the Nazis and play sports.

Government figures have shown anti-Semitic crimes rose at the end of last year.

Do I have to spell that out for you?  M-U-S-L-I-M.

Hartford Courant:

Free Speech Under Fire At Universities

Should college students be challenged by new and unfamiliar ideas, even if those ideas offend them or make them feel uncomfortable? An incident that occurred last fall at Central Connecticut State University suggests that the answer, as far as campus administrators are concerned, is no — that the comfort level of students matters more than their education.

In October 2008, students in a class in the department of communication at Central were asked to select a topic covered by the mainstream media and discuss it in class. Students were free to express their opinions on the topic they selected. At least that is what they thought they were allowed to do.

One student, John Wahlberg, who believes in the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, chose the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech. In his presentation, he expressed the opinion — for which John R. Lott Jr. and other opponents of gun control measures have provided ample empirical corroboration — that had students and faculty at Virginia Tech been allowed to carry concealed weapons on the campus, the shooter might have been shot before he could kill anyone. In fact, had the shooter been cognizant that his intended targets might be armed and able to defend themselves, he might have been deterred from attempting to carry out his plan in the first place. At the very least, the number of victims might have been fewer.

How did the adjunct professor who taught the course respond to Wahlberg’s presentation? Because she believed students were scared and made uncomfortable by Wahlberg’s opinion — for merely expressing it he somehow became a threat to their physical safety and that of the other 12,000 Central students — she called the campus police, who that evening ordered Wahlberg to report to them for the purpose of explaining why he should not be considered a potential assassin.

Fortunately, Wahlberg was able to disabuse the police of their suspicion. And to her credit, the professor did not punish him for the adverse effect she thought his opinion had on other students by lowering his grade.

As far as Wahlberg is concerned, the matter is closed.

There you go, she slanders him, sicks the (admittedly) Barney Fife campus cops on him, they accused him of being a potential assassin, and he’s going to turn the other cheek.  The bullshit isn’t going to stop until somebody stops it.  If it were me, I would sue until I had this professor’s job and CCSU’s endowment bank accounts at my disposal, at which time I would make a nice big donation to this organization.

City Journal Blows the Lid Off Of Hispanic Support For President Bush in 2004

17 03 2009

They run the numbers and find out that President Bush didn’t do as well as first thought among Hispanic voters in his successful 2004 bid for re-election.  As such, the margin by which Hispanic voters shifted from Bush in 2004 to Obama in 2008 is about the same by which white voters flipped.

What little support Bush had in 2004 among Hispanics, most of it came from Texas Hispanics and Florida’s Cubans.  Back those out, and he had almost none.

In contrast with the musings of the Republican open borders lobby, the reason some Republicans don’t do well among Hispanic voters, compared to others, is because they’re weak Republicans to begin with.  Not that any Republican will ever get a majority of the Hispanic vote, but comparing one election to another, a Republican that has less white support will have similarly less Hispanic support, and one that has more white votes will have more Hispanic votes.  Granted, the percent of whites voting for the Republican will be far higher than the percent of Hispanics voting Republican, but the up-down trends mirror each other.  It’s the “strong vs weak” thesis advanced by the Late Great Dr. Samuel T. Francis, The Bard.

Maryland Daily Record:

Salisbury mayor: Malicious blogs endangering city

SALISBURY — In her final State of the City address, Salisbury Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman warned residents of what she sees as a great danger to the city: malicious bloggers.

Tilghman said in her address Thursday that over the last five years, the presence of a small group of suspicious, mean-spirited people focused on the negative has grown, endangering the city’s vitality.

Tilghman says some people are avoiding serving their city because it’s not worth chancing the scorn of bloggers. But Tilghman says they need to stand up for the city.

Tilghman’s final day in office is April 19, but she says she plans to remain active in the city. She says she plans to give a less formal farewell address before leaving office.

Ironically, the article has a link to this newspaper’s own blog, to the post that is an editorial on the part of one of the paper’s reporters about the Mayor’s opinions.

I looked up Salisburyigrad, People’s Republic of Maryland on Wikipedia, and at least on paper, it’s 31% black.  That means in reality, it’s probably 40% black.  Madame Mayor Tightwad, you probably have many more important problems than a few smart ass bloggers.  I’m a smart ass blogger, and I don’t consider myself part of the problem, at least when I’m smart ass blogging.

Muddy Motive

17 03 2009

AP:

MANSFIELD, La. (AP) – Authorities arrested a 32-year-old Texas man on drug charges on Thursday after construction workers saw him on his hands and knees, eating mud and growling like a dog. A woman who accompanied the man from Texas told investigators he had been wandering around the complex and eating dog food.

Sheriff’s Lt. Horace Womack said a small bottle of PCP, a half-pound of marijuana and one-fourth ounce of crack cocaine were seized during the man’s arrest.

The man was booked with possessing all three drugs with intent to distribute them. He was placed in a cell where jailers at the DeSoto Detention Center could keep an eye on him.

If he’s acting that crazy, I’d want to keep an eye on him too, just for comedy relief.

Any human being who is on his hands and knees, eating mud and growling like a dog is probably on drugs, and the combination of PCP, crack and weed probably explains it.  Though the authorities first had to consider firstly that this was all some kind of freaky sex foreplay.

Costs $46,000 a year.  That’s probably double what it was 15 years ago, and is very close to Ivy League rates.  That’s a nice thing to know on St. Patrick’s Day.

By the time this young lady gets out of med school, most of this country’s pediatric endocrinologists will be insourced from Bangalore using H-1B visas, and she’ll be stuck with probably half a million dollars in student loan debt that she’ll have no hope in repaying.  If she is a physician, it’ll be at not much more than minimum wage, and her student loan payments will be twice her after-tax income.

It’s That Time of Year

17 03 2009

Same story, different dates.  While still poor, and in some cases (including the University of Missouri) very bad, the graduation rates for the 65 “March Madness” teams, i.e. to determine the champion of NCAA Division I basketball, has increased overall and for black student-athletes in the last six years.  Like clockwork, every early January and mid-March, we get stories about the poor graduation rates (especially among black student-athletes) of the sport/school combinations that are in the BCS for football in January or March Madness for basketball in March and early April.

The story mentions the University of ConnectiNUT.  The university and its basketball program have been in the news lately, because there are too many politicians upset that head coach Jim Calhoun is making $1.6 million a year in salary.  In this day and age, for a successful program, that’s a bargain, and really a bargain compared to the money that the basketball program makes for the school.  In passing, we find out that UConn’s graduation rate is 22 percent for its black student-athletes.

Otherwise, my opinion of the issue has not changed, as I have gave it three years ago and again two years ago almost to the day.

16 03 2009

Local yokel California conservative talk radio is on the decline.  A combination of the bad economy and the Mexicanization of the state and therefore declining white population has forced stations to dump local conservative talkers for nationally syndicated ones.  That, of course, is merely an intermediary step, on the way to these stations becoming Spanish language.

Grudge Match in ConnetiNUT

16 03 2009

Why is there an outbreak of now-illegal cockfighting matches in Waterbury, Connecticut?  There’s probably more cockfighting after it became illegal than before.  How can such a thing be happening in the most enlightened and progressive region of the country, where a Republican dare not trod?

The Boston Globe provides unusually frank answers:

Located at the intersection of Interstate 84 and state Route 8, Waterbury finds itself easily accessible to people from Boston, New York, Worcester, and Springfield. And some cockfighting fans have certainly been making the trip. The people arrested at Waterbury cockfights hailed from 26 communities in four states, including Massachusetts.

“Almost all of them are from out of town, which is a bigger concern for me because how do they find out about it?” asked J. Paul Vance Jr., president of Waterbury’s Board of Aldermen. “How is it being advertised? And how do we shut these people down?”

Perhaps more important than Waterbury’s geography are its demographics. The city’s population, about 108,000, has remained stagnant for nearly 50 years as the brass industry and other manufacturers have shut down. Yet since 1970, Waterbury’s Hispanic population has grown nearly eightfold, according to US Census data, from around 3,900 to nearly 30,000.

Hispanics now account for more than one-fourth of the city’s population. The vast majority of them hail from Puerto Rico, where cockfighting is legal. That more than anything might explain what’s happening, said Alderman Albert Negron, whose father moved from Puerto Rico to Connecticut in the 1960s. Most of the people arrested in the raids have been Hispanic.

“We have Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, and in all their countries of origin, that’s a national pastime,” Negron said.

Now all those good ConnetiNUT libs are in a Catch-22.  Their love of animals is itself in a fight up against their worship of diversity and sincere desire never to be “racist” by enforcing any kind of antiquated and bigoted “border” between whites and non-whites.  Which rooster is going to win that bout?  I can tell you this much, it’s going 15 rounds.

Bye Bye Minot, Hello Bangalore

16 03 2009

AFP:

US firm to close branch due to lack of employees

TAMPA, Florida (AFP) – A Florida-based firm will soon close one of its North Dakota offices for a reason that seems unfathomable during the deepening US recession: it can’t find enough employees to hire.

Sykes Enterprises, which specializes in creating and maintaining computer customer care services for corporations, opened a telephone call center in Minot, North Dakota in 1996. Last May, management wanted to increase the number of employees to 450.

Yet an unexpected thing happened: so few people applied for the Minot jobs that the Tampa-headquartered company will have to close the call center on May 10 — a cutback by Sykes that will result in 200 people losing their jobs.

“We’ve been working for several months there (in Minot) to find enough applicants for the work, since we have been experiencing significant growth in the US,” said Sykes spokeswoman Andrea Burnett.

She also told AFP that Sykes advertised for many months in the local Minot electronic and press media for applicants.

Really?  You did?  What did you do, run a 5-second TV ad on a Sunday night infomercial aired on Minot’s lowest-rated TV station, or a 10-second radio ad on an overnight rerun of Pinko McFarland’s Hog Talk, or a 2-point classified on page Q45 of the Sunday edition of the Minot newspaper?  Advertising minimum wage jobs, no less?

And why does your supposed inability to hire 450 more people mean that the 200 Minotians who work in that call center have to lose their jobs?

It was something like that, specifically generated to create a low applicant base, so that the company could use that as an excuse to move those open jobs and by deduction the 200 existing jobs to Bangalore, based on the pretense that no Americans wanted to do those jobs.  Call centers are ripe for this kind of treachery.

Preponderance of the Economic Frustration

16 03 2009

White House wants to halt the granting of some $165 million (though what’s a million dollars these days?) of bonuses due to AIG execs.  AIG responds by saying that the bounuses are in their employment contracts, and they could sue if AIG doesn’t pay.

I say don’t pay and let ‘em sue.  Good luck in this near-depression economy of ours finding nine out of twelve random people who’ll say that people making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year if not millions should get $165 million more, when at least some of those civil trial jurors are out of jobs and the ones that still have jobs are taxpayers helping to bail out AIG.

UPDATE 3/17: But I think the demagoguery and invective on the part of some Washington politicians (yes, Charles Grassley, I mean you) is getting to be too much.  AIG’s execs are posting armed guards at their offices.

No need to mouth off and fuel the flames of hate and jealousy, just don’t pay them their bonuses.  Yes, they’ll sue, but like I said, in this economy, you’re not going to get a civil court jury to side with you.  And there is a chance that the AIG execs might sue any politician of serious stature, who says that AIG shouldn’t pay their bonuses, and sue them for tortious interference of contract.  But again, find 9 out of 12 people who would side with AIG execs.
