Who Says Recessions Aren’t Good For Anything?

NYT bemoans state budget cuts affecting summer school programs, because:

…research [shows] it can narrow the achievement gap between poor and affluent children…

In other words, spend more money on the stupid (mainly black and Hispanic) rather than the smart (mostly white).  If Thomas Edison would have spent more time on light bulb designs that failed rather than ones that succeeded, you would still be lighting wax to light your nights.  If the Wright Brothers had spent more times on planes that didn’t fly than ones that did fly, you’d still be going to Europe on a boat.
