Greetings from Wisconsin. I know I promised no new posts until Monday, but wouldn’t ya know it — Events overcame me. The news of Sarah Palin resigning as Governor of Alaska later this month happened just minutes after Rush Limbaugh left the air, and he’s out on vacation all next week. He won’t have a chance to react until a week from Monday. I, however, merely needed to find a computer, after having sobered up.
I don’t think she is resigning in order to have more time to run for President. As it is, even as prolonged as the Presidential campaign season has become, it doesn’t really begin until the start of the year before the election, in the case of 2012, that being January 2011. Second, serving out one’s own full term as Governor but not running for re-election worked out so well for Mitt Romney, and Palin won’t even finish her first and only term. Current occupant notwithstanding, you really need to have been elected to multiple terms as Senator or Governor in order to have credibility in the Presidential campaign.
Why would she chuck the almost certain reality of her being the Republican nominee for President in 2012, and her actually being President if Obama flops or the economy remains bad? My guess is that she has some sort of big money offer from some political organization, lobbying group, quasi-political Christian ministry or church, or something like that. Follow the money.
Now, the GOP field in ‘12 looks really barren and putrid. President Obama might not actually need to campaign for re-election.
UPDATE 7/9: The father of Sarah Palin’s first grandchild says that it’s about the money. He claims that he overheard what could have been his mother-in-law talking about a reality show and a book deal.
