State of the State of the Union

28 01 2010

Loose ends from last night.

(1)  As a measure of central tendency, Democrat Presidents’ SOTU speeches last longer than Republicans’.  That’s because Democrat Presidents need all that time to go over their laundry list of wishes.  Or in the President’s case last night, a list of gripes, blame Bushisms, juvenile hissy fits and cynical bone-throwing to his left.

(2)  Of course President Obama “doesn’t quit.” He’s never held down a job long enough to quit.

(3)  The President dissing SCOTUS in front of their faces took either balls, nerve or both.  But it was deceitful, as Justice Alito motioned with his lips.  Now, all of a sudden the Democrats can’t stand the power of the judiciary.  Any other time, they’re the voice of God, and anyone who criticizes them either individually or collectively might as well be guilty of blasphemy.

(4)  Chris Mathews forgot the President Obama was black for an hour last night?  Frankly, so did I.  I think they were trying to make him look as white as they can, using a combination on skin cream and creative lighting.

(5)  In order to end “tired old battles,” we would need a President that doesn’t repeat the same speech over and over again.  Change a few words, that this could have been one of President Clinton’s SOTUs.

(6)  Twice, the President praised the political efforts of the First Lady.  The cameras zoomed back from his left side to show him looking up at her, both times after he said it.  He was looking at her, but there was enough of his face that the camera could see that I could see the President’s facial expression.  He had the “I want sex” look on his face.
