Wednesday Wrap-Up

17 02 2010

Here’s some of the other interesting news in compressed format.  While I’m not in a hurry, none of these stories are compelling enough so that they deserve their own post.

(1)  Mom knew what she was talking about.  They almost always do, guys, take a hint.  The older I get, the smarter mine gets.

Unfortunately, these four won’t live to see to see one of their mothers get smarter.

(2)  The organizers of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London are bragging that theirs will be the most inclusive and diverse games in the modern history of the Olympics.  Coincidentally, or not, theirs will also be the most expensive, the biggest red ink generator, and the most devastating to the few remaining civil liberties of Londoners, of all the modern Olympic games.

Remember, that nut in the White House and the nut sitting in Chicago City Hall that was his political patron wanted this kind of crap sandwich for Chicago four years following.  Like Londoners, Chicagoans don’t have many civil liberties, so they didn’t have much to lose in that sense.  But we all would have gotten the bill.

(3)  If you’re gonna lose out on a brick building job, don’t feel too bad if you lose out to the Krauts.

As I was born and raised in a Kraut-American city, I can assure you that Krauts sure know their bricks.

(4)  On the surface, this seems like an innocuous power play on the part of Wal-Martinez to leverage its retail market share to get better deals from manufacturers and suppliers, i.e. of the few things Wal-Martinez has that isn’t made in China with slave labor, whose cost can’t be bargained down any more.  However, I get the feeling that Wal-Martinez is gradually moving into manufacturing, or at least the next best thing, and eventually, you will only be able to buy Wal-Martinez’s house label products in its physical stores.  If W-M kicks the brand names out, then it will buy more of the house label stuff from the generic manufacturers that made that stuff, and this will put W-M in a much better bargaining position over those mfgrs., essentially becoming a monopsony.

(5)  While you’re reading this story about a Kansas City woman who rescues dogs and cats from “high poverty” and “high crime” sections of the metropolitan area, I want you to notice how both she and the KC Star dance around race.  Of course, since I don’t dance around race, I can fill in the rest of the blanks for you:  Blacks, especially the low-down ghetto types, are bad at animal husbandry.  While the woman rescues abused dogs and cats from insouciant and ignorant owners, I bet she probably sees a lot of injuries on dogs indicative of dogfighting, and she also encounters packs of feral dogs in those areas.  Those are either jettisoned pets or the progeny of jettisoned pets.  The owners don’t want them anymore — After all, owning a dog is an actual responsibility, and a dog’s nature is obedience to its human or canine alpha pack leader.  So when the responsibility gets too frustrating, they turn the dog loose on the streets, where they hook up with other dogs thrown out on the streets, and do what dogs in the wild do, that is, form packs with a distinct pecking order.  If you get too close to a pack and its alpha male, they’ll take out after you — A 10-year old boy was mauled to death in St. Louis a number of years back in a park (Visitation) very close to where I went to middle school (CJA/Enright) many years before that, by a pack of feral ghetto dogs.  The authorities caught up with the dogs, and were able to trace the histories of a few of them, and found out that they were jettisoned pets whose owners lived several miles to the north.  While my middle school and that park were in the north section of the city, it was on the edge of a white liberal yuppie neighborhood called the Central West End, and some relatively upscale black neighborhoods to the north, so common sense would dictate that the people around the school and park weren’t the ones who threw away their dogs.  Those dogs came from the worst of the worst ghetto sections of St. Louis, and gradually migrated southward.

(6)  St. Louis MSM outraged that a black man reads “big” and “black” on a piece of paper attached to the pizza box he received while ordering takeout at the Pizza Hut on Lindell.  Evidently, someone printed “big” and “black” on the receipt to make sure the right customer gets the right pizza.  And it happened on St. MLK day, too, horror of horrors.

St. Louis MSM doesn’t work up 10% as much outrage when pizza delivery guys and gals are assassinated after they are told to deliver a pizza to the ghetto sections of St. Louis.  They are usually pre-planned ambushes, robbery being the main motive.

(7)  A study in contrasts:  White jurors who lived in mixed race areas are more likely to convict white defendants of an interpersonal crime where the victim was non-white, than the same scenario, only the white jurors live in almost all-white areas.

Why don’t we get any studies about black jurors, black defendants and white victims?  Answer:  Because the conclusion would be un-PC.

(8)  A Pittsburgh junior college will officially sanction an on-campus student organization that will advocate for CCW on campus.  The student who tried to start the group earlier was shut down by campus admins, and the ACLU and FIRE rode in to the student’s rescue.

It would have been nice for the school to allow both CCW itself and the organization.  It would save the organizer a lot of time and trouble.
