My New Favorite St. Louis Cardinal

21 02 2010

Cardinals reliever Ryan Franklin rips MLB a new one for their edict that player clubhouses and MLB facilities should be “gun-free zones.”

Ask the University of Alabama-Huntsville, Virginia Tech University and hundreds of other places — How’s that workin’ out for ya?

The edict is in reaction to Plaxico Burress, Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittendon.  It should be noted that Burress’s gun trouble was in a nightclub in New York City, not a clubhouse.  Burress?  NFL.  The other two?  NBA.  What don’t you read?  MLB.  All three?  Something which an increasingly smaller share of MLB players are.  Something that’s taboo in most media.

Sunday Wrap-Up

21 02 2010

(1)  Go to the pic showing the illuminated tires.  They might have flopped in 1961, but I predict they’ll soon be a big hit with the chrome spinner ghetto crowd.

(2)  This reminds me of the Beavis & Butt-Head episode where they decided to do their science project about morning wood.

(3)  Speaking of, VANOC has 100,000 condoms queued up for free distribution in the athletes’ residential village.  That works out to 14 for every athlete, coach, trainer and ref.  A lot of guys will take their fair share of 14, but let me lay (no pun int’d) the bad news on you — You’re not getting with Lindsey Vonn.

(4)  The British Labour Party has found its mojo for the upcoming elections — Fairness.  As Martin Luther might have said, “A Mighty Fairness Is Our God.”  Or as us Americans sing, “Let Fairness Ring.”  Lee Hazelwood sang it:  “But I’m Proud to be an American, Where At Least I Know It’s Fair.”

When Labour loses, they’ll be able to point to themselves with pride and say that they went down fighting fair.

(5)  P-D reprints AP screed re Stack, and his none too inviting view toward the IRS.  Most of it are quotes from the IRS and SPLC, and since the SPLC is involved, that should tell you the angle of the article.  At the end of the article, they link to the IRS, ADL and SPLC’s websites.  If you’re gonna write an “article” that does nothing but quote the IRS and SPLC, then link to them, why write the article to begin with?  Just make the article nothing but links to the IRS, ADL and SPLC.

And some headlines.

On the other hand, he’s got proof that he was brushing his teeth.
