Lunch Time (No More)

12 02 2010

The beginning of this month was the 50th anniversary of the first sit-in at an establishment in the Deep South.  On that day, four black men asked to eat lunch at the counters at the Woolworth store that were reserved for whites.
The end result?

We can now sit anywhere we want in Woolworth’s restaurant section.

Errrr…

Can’t do that now.  No more Woolworth’s exist anymore per se, but the company still exists as Foot Locker.  The W/W’s that was closest to where I grew up closed in 1993 for a very ironic reason, lunch counter and all.  I actually have some fond memories of the Woolworth’s on Cherokee Street in South St. Louis City, because that’s where I bought my first baseball glove, my second baseball glove, my first jockstrap, my second jockstrap, my first cans of eyeblack, my first pocket calculator, a bevy of school supplies, Super Mario 3, my first wristwatch, my second wristwatch, and my third wristwatch, though when I bought the third wristwatch, it was far discounted in the store’s Going Out of Business sale.  And of course I did partake of their food on frequent occasions.

Do you care to take a guess what might have drove it out of business?

What’s the Rush?

12 02 2010

San Jose Mercury-News:

East Palo Alto cop takes heat for Facebook remarks

An East Palo Alto police detective is taking heat in online forums for allegedly posting comments from his Facebook account that advocate shooting Open Carry gun advocates.

Detective Rod Tuason apparently made the remarks in response to a friend’s status update, which joked that gun advocates who carry unloaded weapons in plain view as a political statement should start doing so in places such as Oakland, Richmond and East Palo Alto “and not limit themselves to hoity toity cities.”

“Haha, we had one guy last week try to do it!” Tuason replied, referring to a Redwood City man who strolled into the Mi Pueblo Food Center in East Palo Alto on Jan. 27 with a gun on his hip. “He got proned out and reminded where he was at and that turds will jack him for his gun in a heartbeat!”

After several more comments in the thread, Tuason apparently joked that officers should shoot the advocates, who have made recent headlines throughout the Bay Area for sipping coffee at cafes and performing other everyday acts with visible weapons.

“Sounds like you had someone practicing their 2nd amendment rights last night!” Tuason wrote. “Should’ve pulled the AR out and prone them all out! And if one of them makes a furtive movement … 2 weeks off!!!”

(snip)

Tuason didn’t return a phone message seeking comment Monday. But East Palo Alto police Capt. Carl Estelle said the department’s professional standards division is looking into the Facebook remarks to see if they violate any rules or policies.

“We have to be careful because they’re on his own personal private Web page,” Estelle said. “We have to be careful not to violate his First Amendment rights.”

The department hasn’t taken action against Tuason, and the detective was working in uniform Monday, he said.

Of course he was, and of course they’re not going to do anything to him.  It’s just 2nd Amendment advocates here, NBD.  They’re not really human, after all.

Now, if he would have used anti-black racial slurs on his F/B page, suggesting that “n*****s” who enter East Palo Alto should be shot on sight, then his First Amendment rights wouldn’t be much of a concern to his superiors right about now.  He would be out of uniform and out of job by yesterday.

Prejudice

11 02 2010

Some of the same leftist local yokels who are telling us today not to be prejudiced against a Pakistani-American billionaire businessman from Urbana, Illinois that wants to buy 60% of the St. Louis Rams were telling us to be prejudiced against an American-American talk radio host from Cape Girardeau, Missouri a few months ago when he wanted to buy 9% of the Rams.

The Tea Parties Of Its Day

11 02 2010

WSJ:

Would Reagan Be a Tea Partier?

(snip)

So who’s right? Engaging in speculation about what someone departed might think about current events is always risky. But we do know some things about Ronald Reagan. First, he believed in not characterizing the extreme views of some as typifying an entire movement. When it comes to the Tea Partiers, the signs that show Barack Obama as a Hitler-like figure that feature so prominently in news coverage are often actually carried by supporters of Lyndon LaRouche, a left-wing fanatic who believes Mr. Obama is part of an international conspiracy.

And Reagan had kind words for the tax revolt movement that touched off Proposition 13′s success in California. He called it a “prairie fire” sweeping the country and saluted the “brave patriots” who were carrying its message. Reagan supporters in California recall that he would often speak to groups that had more aggressive tax-cutting and anti-government agendas than today’s Tea Parties.

So while no one knows for sure what the Gipper would be saying today, the best evidence we have is he would probably be quite at home with today’s Tea Party movement. He often said that any nation that took more than 25% of a people’s income faced the danger of inevitable decline. What sentiment could be more in agreement with today’s Tea Party protests?

There was a broad based movement in the late 70s and early 80s, corresponding with Reagan’s 1976 and 1980 campaigns for President, that is very similar to the modern tea party movement in many ways.  It was called the New Right, not to be confused with neo-conservatism, even though the names are similar.  Like today’s TPM, the NR was a movement and not a coherent organization, so you sometimes got mixed messages with the NR just like you do the TPM of today.  However, the NR was anti-tax, small government and fiscally conservative like the TPM.  However, the NR also branched out into social conservatism as well.  While both the NR of old and the TPM of new seemed to keep its distance from white nationalists and racial realists, it was obvious to any dummy, then or now, that the almost exclusive whiteness of the NR then and the TPM now wasn’t just a coincidence.  And Ronald Reagan embraced the New Right, and allowed himself to be called a New Right leader, between 1976 and 1980.  A few of his radio commentaries during those years actively praised the New Right and what it stood for.  The Panama Canal turnover was signed during the peak of New Right activism, (but didn’t take effect until decades later), and Reagan used some of his public speeches on behalf of the NR and at least one his radio commentaries to denounce the handover of the Panama Canal.  His exact words were, “we built it, it’s ours, our men died of awful jungle diseases to get the thing built, and we should keep it.”  In other words, it was a nationalist, albeit not racialist, appeal, in contrast to the more lame rhetoric of national security and international commerce that most Panama Canal Turnover opponents not associated with the New Right relied upon.

And, like I think will happen to the Tea Party Movement over time, the New Right was co-opted by the Republican Party.  By the time Reagan won his second term in 1984, it seemed as if the right had won its rendezvous with history.  The NR evaporated shortly after that, just as many formal conservative organizations were bumming for members and money during the Reagan years, for the same reason.

Through Thick and Thin

11 02 2010

It’s too painful to read, much less blockquote.

I will add this, because I think this guy and I share a lot in common:

The wife is the one who “snitched,” though since he did nothing wrong, “snitched” is a misnomer.  Evidently, she was upset about her husband’s “paranoid” rhetoric about martial law.  (Turns out he really wasn’t paranoid, they really were out to get him.)  Now, it doesn’t say how long they were married, but if he is “paranoid” now, (keeping in mind that I’m about half that “paranoid”), then he must have been “paranoid” while they were dating and engaged and married and in the early years of their marriage.  That means she knew what he was like all along, and married him anyway.  Why?

Answer:  I think it’s because she wasn’t in love with who he was, she was in love with who she thought she could turn him into being.  In other words, isn’t that just like typical broad, to tell you how much they love you and like you the way you are, don’t ever change baby, and once the rings are on fingers and the honeymoon is over, and the sex is all of a sudden not so fun anymore, she starts in on her holy crusade to change you?  I think what happened here is that she couldn’t change him, so she’s trying to pawn him off on the county jail or the state prison.  In other words, she’s trying to use the force of the law to scare him to change his personality.

It won’t work.  They will soon be going through the Big D, and I don’t mean Dallas.  If he is guilty of a crime, it is First Degree Getting Married.

All of this is nothing more than a gigantic domestic dispute that has spilled over onto the 2nd Amendment question in a tangential way.  If he never owned any guns, the bitch would have found another way to “snitch” on him, such as giving herself bruises and claming that he did it, or something else.

Kathy, I know you’re reading this, or at least you eventually will.  So let me put it to you and every other broad like you in some plain words:  No bitch is ever going to change me.  You’re either going to take me as I am, or not at all.  (Not you literally, Kathy, because I know it’s long past over.)  WTF do I need to get married for anyway?  Sex?  Hell, that’s why God invented nightclubs and hard liquor.  If worse comes to worst on that front, I can always make a fist.  Children?  I can always make some sort of arrangement in that stead.  Companionship?  I’ve gotten better companionship out of my cats than I have from most women I’ve had relationships with for any semblance of an extended time period.  Plus, with a cat, I don’t have to deal with potential screwball in-laws like your old man.  Either way, I’m gonna call a spade a spade any day, and I don’t give a shit who it hurts.  You know, Kathy, it’s a good thing I never sexted you, or I’d be in the same fix as is Greg Oden right now.

Back to the subject matter, here’s another painful read on another gun question.  I can add to this one that if Brady wins Governor, he should pardon Kozak completely.  Since Brady is touting his 2nd credentials, he would have a chance to prove them.

IQ Matters All of a Sudden

There’s no such thing as IQ.  At least that’s what they tell us when it comes to racial differences in intelligence.

But there is such a thing as IQ when it comes to springing stupid people out of the death house.

And now, there is such a thing as IQ when it comes to stupid people getting heart disease and attacks.  Of course, what they don’t tell you is that the reason stupid people get more heart disease and heart attacks is because they’re too stupid to comprehend such higher order thinking skills that are frontal lobe-dependent, such as delayed gratification and far future consequences to current behavior.  That quintuple mega-cheeseslopper burger from Rally’s tastes good right now.  You’re not gonna have heart problems for another 20 to 30 years.  Catch my drift?

The Left’s Intranicene Feeding Frenzy to Intensify

10 02 2010

You think it’s bad now with all these squabbles between hard core left-wingers and the lamestream of the Democrat Party, including the White House?  Franken thumping Rahm over HCR and Schumer unloading on Holder about KSM in NYC is gonna be a picnic compared to this:

First Lady Links Childhood Obesity to National Security in Launch of ‘Let’s Move’ Campaign

(CNSNews.com) – At a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launch of the ‘Let’s Move’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security.

“A recent study put the health care cost of obesity-related diseases at $147 billion a year,” Mrs. Obama said. “This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.”

Being against the military is probably the left wing’s second holiest sacrament, behind only St. Abortion himself.  I can already imagine the cow that the nutroots must be having right about now because the FIRST LADY, the wife of THE MESSIAH, is telling 9-year old kids that they’ve gotta slim down now so that they can join the Yankee Army when they turn 17 to go murder all those holy Muslims over in Crapistan who did nothing wrong but are only reacting to their own poverty and the evil infidel’s arrogance and thirst for oil.  At that time, the White House’s political problems are only going to intensify, because a lot of young Obama voters from 2008 are already abandoning him like rats on the Titanic b/c of the rotten economy hurting young adults the worst, (little do they know it, but they’re hurt even more by Obama’s push for amnesty and open borders), and since some of them voted Obama b/c they were scared of a military draft, they’re gonna be none too happy that Michelle Obama’s chief motivation for championing the mitigation of childhood obesity is the Armed Forces’s staffing problems in 2020.

BTW, what about all of Obama’s “bring the troops home” rhetoric of 2007 and early 2008?  Why should we be concerned about military recruitment in the 2020s if we’re gonna be out of Crapistan anyway by the end of next year?  Does Obama really plan on continuing our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq far longer than he’s putting on?  If the country’s gonna have a big defense budget through the decade following now, then this will only make the left wingers mad b/c of the whole guns versus butter conundrum.  A dollar that we’ll spend on tanks in 2020 is a dollar we won’t spend on food stamps.  Assuming dollars will be worth anything in 2020 anyway.

UPDATE 2/11: R.C. from California wrote:

One more thing you can add:  Why are the Obamas making a link between the size of the military and national security?  I thought his personality would solve all the world’s problems, make the sea level go down, bring about world peace, and all of that.  We don’t need a military at all when we have The One.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want. But If You Try Sometimes, You Just Might Find, Yourself Accused of Racism.

10 02 2010

UK Daily Mail:

85% of young people want more grammar schools created

There is huge support for grammar schools among recent school leavers and first-time voters, a poll showed yesterday.

Eighty-five per cent of those aged 18 to 24 would like to see more created, the ICM survey found.

And 76 per cent of all age groups would support new grammars, more than three decades after many of the schools were replaced by comprehensives.

The findings prompted fresh questions over David Cameron’s decision to abandon the Conservatives’ historic support for selective education.

You, American reader, can probably imply that “grammar school” in the Brit parlance doesn’t mean the same as it does in the American context of it being elementary school.  What “grammar school” in Britain means is academic-themed public high schools with selective admissions standards.  It also used to mean that such a school focused on classical education, the Greco-Roman context to Western Civilization, but not there are a lot of grammar schools in Britain that have specialty academic themes other than The Classical.

I think the reason so many young adult Britons want more grammar schools is because they would already have the necessary skills for a very good employment situation by the time they leave the sixth form (latter years of what we think of as high school), and not have to waste any further years in postsecondary education.  They want good jobs so that they actually have money to spend when they finally get old enough to drink.

However, as us Americans say, they can wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which ones fill up the fastest.  Why?  Race.  It’ll benefit too many white students.  No can do in today’s England — educating white children and teenagers on the public’s farthing is strictly prohibited.

Disagree With Guy White

9 02 2010

GW says this in passing when dealing with another matter:

It quickly became obvious that the new ideology turned into a cult that was taking equality too far. In the 1950s, the Southerners fought back, but lost badly for the lack of articulate spokesmen who could say something better than “I hate them niggers. They ain’t going to school with my daughter”.

When fighting, you must always keep the high ground and screaming about “niggers” was just not useful. Neither was it useful that most of the leaders were just sell out politicians looking to incite crowds, but not actually help them.

Another reason is that the Southern fight came too early. Just a few years after WWII, the people were just not ready to admit that the new kumbaya ideology that sought to make everyone love each other was a giant failure.

The Southern loss was so decisive that it scared off the rest of the population.

I like GW’s blog, and it’s probably the best medium you’ll find when it comes to common sense on a certain taboo issue.  However, he’s all wind and piss here.

I don’t know who or how old is GW, but I do know that my reading of the history of the civil rights movement and the Southern resistance didn’t come from having a conscious memory of it.  Everything I know about it, and everything I think about it, comes from reading historical sources and from face to face conversations with those who were on the front lines of the Southern resistance or those who knew important people on the front lines.

The five main political pillars of the Southern resistance, George Wallace, Lester Maddox, Ross Barnett, Theodore Bilbo and Richard Russell were nothing like that.  AMAF, what stuck in the crawl of the left wing in the 1960s was that the aforementioned were articulate, and didn’t do things like go around and yell nigger nigger nigger, and I know this because I have read various newspaper articles of the time where left-wing college professors and civil rights activists admitted as such.  There were numerous times when Wallace would debate four or five left-wing law school profs at a time and clean their clocks, and by that, I mean in terms of formal Aristotelian logic, before they could read the time.  The sort of people who were doing and saying the kinds of things GW bemoans were Yankee government agents provoacteurs, such as the FBI agents who dressed up in Klan robes and firebombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, killing four black girls.  (You can deduce from that that Hal Turner et al. aren’t new.)  I’ll go to my grave thinking that John Kennedy essentially ordered the church bombing, because his proposals for civil rights were languishing in Congress.  The famous JFK civil rights speech was in June, and 16th Street happened in September, all in 1963.  Therefore, the civil rights bills were in limbo for three months, and however impatient and the fount of his own personality you think is President Obama, JFK was far worse.  Once November came and went, the new President, Lyndon Johnson, was far better at back scratching, log rolling and palm greasing than his predecessor, and he put all those energies into passing various civil rights laws of the era, including CRA ’64 and VRA ’65.  However, all that skill wasn’t quite enough, and when the alliance of Southern politicians and groups like the Citizens Councils and southern chapters of the John Birch Society just about had those bills defeated, off went a bomb somewhere, and the bill had legs again.  Years later, we find out that the funny people wearing funny uniforms who set off the bomb were Yankee government funded shit disturbers.

I think Quinn will pick a black State Rep or Senator from either the south side of Chicago or East St. Louis, probably Chicago.  The reason is that Quinn’s ace in the hole in ekeing out a primary win over Dan Hynes was his appeal to black voters, and I think he thinks that ace will be under the table to pull out come November.

Chocolate: No Longer In Season

8 02 2010

Lost in the hubbub about the most obvious news coming out of New Orleans this weekend was an election they had on Saturday.

Ray Nagin is out as Mayor.  Lt. Gov Mitch Landrieu, who made the runoff four years ago but narrowly lost to The School Bus King, won the beauty contest with two-thirds of the vote, therefore no runoff.  Landrieu’s father, Moon Landrieu, was Mayor in NO for most of the 1970s, and you’ve obviously heard of his sister Mary.

Now it might seem insane that someone who is one heartbeat away from being Governor would want to be Mayor of No Longer Chocolate City.  However, I think it was more a family thing with Mitch Landrieu, that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.  If it were me, I’d say screw the old man and let me become Governor some day.  That plus sis being in the U.S. Senate, makes for a powerful family.

As for the Super Bowl, I have a theory why it beat the series finale of M*A*S*H in 1983 to become the most watched TV show of all time in the United States, though its rating will be lower because there are more TV households as a quotient — much of the East Coast was snowed in.  A lot of people who would have been outdoors had no choice but to to watch it.

UPDATE: I have erred slightly — Nagin was term-limited out, and none of Landrieu’s other competitors have much name rec.  So it wasn’t a matter of Nagin losing.

The Raw Story (H/T League of the South):

No joke: South Carolina now requires ’subversives’ to register

Five-dollar registration fee for persons planning to overthrow US government

Terrorists who want to overthrow the United States government must now register with South Carolina’s Secretary of State and declare their intentions — or face a $25,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.

The state’s “Subversive Activities Registration Act,” passed last year and now officially on the books, states that “every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States … shall register with the Secretary of State.”

There’s even a $5 filing fee.

By “subversive organization,” the law means “every corporation, society, association, camp, group, bund, political party, assembly, body or organization, composed of two or more persons, which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States [or] of this State.”

(snip)

The law also gives subversive organizations “subject to foreign control” 30 days to register with the state after setting up shop in South Carolina.

Foreign agents hostile to South Carolina?  There ya go, Abe Foxman.  You’ve got a month to come up with five bucks, or the ADL will be in violation of SC law.

Seriously, I can just imagine OBL and Good Ole Mohammed al-Terrorisitqua planning their next terrorist attack in a cave.  “Flight school tuition?  $80,000.  First class out of LaGuarida to LAX?  $1,400, plus the $35 September 11 security fee.  Pair of Fruit of the Booms?  $796.”  “Uh, Osama, don’t forget about that $5 for South Carolina.”

I Have an Alternate Theory. Hint: It’s About the Fifth Grade.

San Francisco Chronicle:

S.F. schools consider costly gay support program

With everything from art classes, summer school and jobs on the chopping block this year, the San Francisco school board will decide this week whether to greatly expand school services, support and instruction on issues of sexual orientation.

(snip)

San Francisco school officials have long backed education and support of gay and lesbian support services and recently created the nation’s first school district Web site for gay youth.

And why does the most homosexual-friendly city in the country (sorry, Austin) need an expensive hand-holding bureaucracy for its LGBT public school students?

Nearly 80 percent of fifth-graders said their peers use the phrases “fag,” “dyke” or “that’s so gay.”

Fifth-graders?  Cruel?  Nawwwwwwwh, get outta town!  I must have been the only fifth grader in the entire history of the fifth grade not to use those words.  Then again, I was too busy arguing for a world free of nuclear weapons.  But take heart — I acutally grew up.

If You Can Manipulate Crime Statistics There, You Can Manipulate Them Anywhere

8 02 2010

It’s up to you, New York.

See also:  Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and just about every other major city that has or will report a “surprising drop in crime” in this the era of Hopeychange.

Speaking of crime, the P-D wants Missouri to “get smart” re crime, and one of their suggestions is:

Leaders in rural counties must start to deal with nonviolent offenders in their own communities. If their prosecutors and judges insist on sending everyone to prison, then local taxpayers should be forced to pick up the tab.

What the P-D is alluding to, (but they might not be aware of it), is the taboo racial and ethnic gap in handing out sentences for crimes in Missouri.  Rural judges and jurors, especially along the Kraut Belt and in southern Missouri, are known for their hanging skills.  Or, to look at the half full glass in a half empty way, black and liberal judges and juries in St. Louis and Kansas City hand out ridicuously lenient sentences to black convicts.  Put the two together, and just imagine what state prisons are like when the average white inmate is in for crimes far less serious than the average black inmate, and for much longer bids ceteris paribus.  The P-D is right about that — That cell in Jefferson City that is being occupied by someone from Fredericktown who was caught possessing weed for the third time is a cell not occupied by an armed robber up on College and Carter in North St. Louis City.  It just might be time for hard and fast state sentencing standards that actually prohibit prison time for certain offenses.

Sitting by the Mailbox

7 02 2010

Here are several things I am not doing:

(1)  Shooting American Marines in Afghanistan

(2)  Growing soybeans in Kansas

(3)  Plugging a cap into the skull of a teenager the next block over simply because he doesn’t live on my block

(4)  Buying or selling the accounts receivable on dubiously creditworthy affirmative action subprime mortgages

Yet, I have not yet received a check or some other consideration from the Yankee government.  I think I eventually will, though, because these are the things the Yankee government pays people not to do.
