* Distracted driving thanks to txting or yapping is just as much an old people’s thing as it is a young people’s thing. So why do laws and PSA campaigns target young people? Answer: Old people can and do vote, and can and do pay far more in taxes.

* There is a proposal in the UK to allow different ways to earn a GCSE (early high school diploma, equivalent to finishing the sophomore year in American jargon) for different genders (as far as they know, there are only two). Maybe it’s a good idea for the purposes of gender (though I’m not ready to make up my mind), but what if they want to start doing this by race? I can just see blacks et al. being offered a drop-dead easy route to earning the GCSE.

* 11 to start a 4 PM newscast. Eventually, there won’t be a time of the day or night where you can turn on a St. Louis OTA TV station and not find a news cast of some sort.
I do know that a lot of major local news powers in the Eastern and Pacific time zones have 4 PM newscasts.
