* CBS touts “only” 57% support for SB 1070 in their poll, but if you add the 57% who say “about right” and the 17% who says “not far enough,” (I vote for “not far enough,” FYI), you get 74%.
From my reading, SB 1070 was the kind of law written to hit the sweet spot between an effective piece of legislation and the chances of surviving court challenges. There can be legislation that is more effective, (and I would want that), but it wouldn’t stand up in court, at least in this environment. There is language that would survive a court challenge with 100% certainty, but it wouldn’t be at all effective. SB 1070 is the Goldilocks.
* Nun With Gun. I suppose Lindsay Lohan was tired of merely being famous for being famous, so she decided actually to do something. Unfortunately, it’s that infamous Machete (“through gringo’s throat”) movie that Texas’s gringo taxpayers are helping to fund.
* Mike Cox, Michigan’s AG, once thought of as a shoo-in for Governor, has recently fallen behind in the primary to Congressman Pete Hoekstra. Cox has filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of Arizona in the 1070 lawsuits.
I don’t know much about Hoekstra, but I think Cox is a better candidate. He openly supported MCRI in 2006, when no other statewide office holder or candidate would.
