Huckabee Defends Obama’s Immigration Policy: ‘It’s An Admirable Thing’
Mike Huckabee told the crew at Fox & Friends this morning that he understood his stance on immigration was not particularly popular among Republicans, and he didn’t support and executive order for it, but the policy President Obama tried to implement for young undocumented people was something he had also attempted to pass in Arkansas. “You don’t punish a kid for what his or her parents did,” he argued, saying the policy was not a “job-killer.”
You rob a bank of a thousand bucks. You give the loot to your kids. The cops catch up to you and found out that you gave the money to your kid. What will the cops do next? At the very least confiscate the dough, and maybe even pop him or her for receiving stolen property, if there’s probable cause that s/he knew it was stolen money. “But you can’t punish a kid for what his or her parents did!”
Technically, Huckster is right in that this isn’t a “job killer.” The jobs will still be there, and in fact, mass non-white immigration means there are more jobs here than there otherwise would be, as it has precluded the mechanization of a lot of work. It’s just that native born white Americans won’t get to do those jobs, and it alters the economics of the labor market in the direction of decreasing wages and salaries. It’s like RJP said at DSL, cross-posted here today, the high rise window washer jobs in Chicago are still there, but they’re paying $28 an hour instead of $50 an hour because mass Hispanic immigration has driven the wage scale down.
