Hoyer: Guns didn’t kill Border Patrol agent Brian Terry — criminals did
The guns linked to the botched “Fast and Furious” gun-walking program did not kill U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday — people did.
The comments from the Democratic whip, a long-time supporter of tougher gun laws, borrowed the common refrain from arms lobbyists and other hard-line gun-rights advocates that beefing up the nation’s gun laws is a misdirected approach to fighting gun violence.
While Hoyer is trying to cover Obama’s ass and Eric “My People” Holder’s ass, he stumbled onto a good point that gets lost in the controversy over Gunrunner — The Mexican drug cartels are just as culpable for the crimes they committed with the guns that Obama and Holder provided as Obama and Holder. If Gunrunner would have walked those guns to my front door, the number of new crimes would have numbered exactly zero.
In related news, four House Democrats have publicly announced they will vote for contempt against Holder tomorrow. There could be as many as 20 Democrats that actually do. This probably proves that the House will stay in Republican hands after the election.
