It’s Not Easy Being Green

11 10 2007

New York’s Empire State Building is being illuminated with green lights, to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid, which itself is held on the day of the new moon that marks the end of Ramadan.

This sounds like a practical joke, but it’s not.  Judging from the way that everyone from President Bush on down to American public school teachers and administrators have behaved since 9/11, Islam has become the de facto official religion of the United States of America.  You may think that OBL (or the random Arab that played OBL) was whistling Abu Dhabi when he (or his stunt double) claimed that it was AQ’s goal to convert the white world to Islam — looks like he’s succeeding.

I’m not a big fan of what one respondent to a piece I wrote in another medium some time back terms the “warthog from hell,” but when the AQ/OBL gang pulled 9/11, I interpreted it for what it was, not an attack on a city whose politicians I mostly disagree with, but a full-frontal racial assault and hate crime against whites.  However, it doesn’t appear that Gothamers have learned anything.  If another such terrorist attack happens there, in my mind, it’s their own fault.  I would rather then hang a Red Sox banner from the ESB.

Ulterior Memorial

29 01 2007

New York State legislators are pushing to create a memorial at Ground Zero for firefighters and other first responders that have come down with Ground Zero Sicknesses but have not perished (yet).

If it were just about that, nobody should have any problem.  However, I think there’s an ulterior motive for this second memorial, and it has to do with race.

The photo above needs no explanation.  But within a couple of years after 9/11, this photo was the model for a sculpture for an official 9/11 memorial, I believe at Ground Zero.  The first proposals for the statue “affirmative actioned” two of the three firefighters to depict two non-whites, when the real photo of the real event had three whites.  Pressure from the NYFD Union prevented that injustice.

With that having been said, I think that this second memorial has a hidden motive for being able to display genuine heroism of non-white first responders.

Another Senile Mind

Add to the growing list of those who forgot 9/11 ever happened:  John Conyers.

This post and one previous are now part of a new category of posts on this blog entitled “How Soon We Forget.”  About 9/11, of course.

How Soon They Forget

10 01 2007

It’s official. Five years and four months out, New York City has officially forgotten that 9/11 happened there.

And with that attitude on the part of everyone except the cops and firefighters, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer city.
