As if he believes it as an article of religious faith, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay pushes recreation centers as a way to assuage violent crime.

An anonymous poster today to this American Renaissance thread of yesterday informs us:

“Geez, where do I start!! So “Devonte” was a “good kid” because he was in an after school ‘basset’ ball program???? We all know those “programs” are nothing more than after school thug get togethers.That’s when all the thugs can plan their raping ,car-jacking etc.. Stop making excuses for your “brothas” Ms Kairis, “kids” that talk-out,use profanity, and aren’t motivated ARE BAD KIDS!!!! Posted by Tom S at 8:01 PM on August 7”

Tom, you are so right. The ultra liberal San Francisco City and County Juvenile Probation Department did a study more than 20 years ago that showed that the more recreation programs thugs are in the more likely it is that they become recidivists.

The reason? When thugs get together, gang mentality takes over. They meet shoot a little hoop and rob, rape and assault on the way home.

Juvenile crime goes way, way down during the summer when they can’t get together in school. About a week after school starts juvenile arrests go way, way up because the thugs get together.

And what’s up with this “he played ball” offered as proof that he was a good boy? Don’t just about all boys play some sort of ball game at some time in their lives?

Wonder if the Weisenthal Center of Tolerance and Hatred of Whites will step in to get them off as the Weisenthal Center got the black thugs who beat and disabled 3 white Long Beach Ca. girls last year at a Halloween festival off?

Opelika, Alabama’s Mayor Must Not Be Named “Slay”

KSDK-NBC-5:

Police in Opelika, Alabama, say a seventh grader brought a semi-automatic pistol to school with the intention of shooting another student.

The principal at Opelika Middle School said a tip from another student led to a search of the student’s locker where the gun was discovered in the 12-year-old’s book bag. Police say the student intended to shoot a student after school at the recreation center next to the school. The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a youth detention center.

It doesn’t take much for kids to start a neighborhood feud in this city. A look. A shove. A hand sign flashed at the wrong person.

Before long, somebody swings a fist or reaches for a knife. Last week, after a brawl at the Wildwood recreation center, two teenagers decided to get a gun and drive around hunting for revenge, police said.

Antwanisha Morgan was making the right choices, having learned from her family’s struggles as she grew up in San Francisco’s troubled Bayview.

The 17-year-old was set to graduate from South San Francisco High School in June. She had spent four years preparing for college. She was about to go on a bus tour to check out universities in the South.

But her promising life was cut short when she was gunned down outside a Bayview community youth center where she and her brother had been Friday night, an innocent victim of apparent gang violence, police say.

Let’s Start With Proper Wording

Joshua Moulder and Justin Moulder are two evil sick men who took a puppy, duct-taped its front paws together, and its hind paws together, then doused it with paint, then cooked the puppy in an oven. They then rounded up area children to show them the dead puppy, and threatened to murder the children if they told authorities. Interspersed among these evils, Messrs. Moulder and Moulder also took the opportunity to damage the community center and some of its equipment, the same center where they committed the crimes involving the puppy and the children.

Before you read the article, I would like to present an alternate and more accurate title and first line:

Atlanta Men Sentenced To 10 Years For Animal Cruelty, Vandalism, Terrorist Threats

ATLANTA (Not the AP) — Two area men were each sentenced to 10 years in prison for torturing a puppy by cooking it in an oven, along with vandalizing a community recreation center and making death threats against children.

Because they’re black, MSM describes them as “teens” and “boys,” as a Google News or Accoona News Search at the time of this writing using the keywords “Moulder” and “puppy” would reveal. Lizz Brown would call them “babies.” Legitimate first-world armies and prisons are full of “boys” and “babies” of that age.

What’s even more insane, a “human rights” group called New Order National Human Rights didn’t want them to go to prison at all. Funny my mind doesn’t gravitate toward animal torture and threatening to kill children when I think of the phrase “human rights.” And pray tell, where were the animal rights groups countering this protest?

I wonder what Mayor Slay would think if he read this article. He’s the one who says that we need all these recreation centers to head off violent crime. In this case, it looks like the recreation center provided these two men the means to commit crime.

Also:

The brothers’ first trial ended in a mistrial in December. Their attorney, Timothy Owens, said he had hoped his clients’ sentencing would have focused more on rehabilitation than incarceration.

I would rehabilitate them alright, though my plan would call for some duct tape, and an oven big enough to hold two grown men. Though really, that sounds more like incarceration. Hot time, not hard time, por favor. Absent that, this man might be an ideal cellmate for them both.

UPDATE 8:50 PM: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, usually a reliable liberal source, but to its credit, in its article about the sentencing, used “men” but not “teens” or “boys.” The article also informs us about the worldwide animal rights protest that ensued. What’s more, in its public comments section, we find from someone named Sara:

To the people who claim that a ten year sentence will only turn the defendants into “hardened criminals”–guess what? They already are hardened criminals! They were even before they tortured and killed this puppy. Yesterday in court, we learned that they both have juvenile records for offenses including child molestation (one brother forced a three year old to perform oral sex on him), attempted arson, and theft. They threatened to slit their mother’s throat and have spent time in a psycho ward.

Which makes my “cellmate” snark above a little more appropriate.
