Jackie Robinson Day.
Just to remind you of something I wrote in passing in my review of James Edwards’s Racism Schmacism, Official America now goes through an egalitarian orgy every April 15. However, the media of April 15, 1947 didn’t treat the Sacred Event (TM) with the same kind of reverence. Almost all articles from the New York papers and the national wire services about the Dodgers game that day treated the Sacred Event (TM) as an afterthought, burying news of the Sacred Event (TM) deep down into the paragraph count, and telling us more about how Robinson played that day than his race.
The New York Post referred to Robinson, 28 years old on that day, as a “colored boy.”
