Stanley Kurtz Exposes Obama’s War on the Suburbs: Ideological Key to Obama’s Past, Present, and Future
Stanley Kurtz, who traced Barack Obama’s left-wing political origins in Radical-in-Chief (2010), is releasing a new and powerful follow-up this week: Spreading the Wealth: How Obama is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Cities. Kurtz demonstrates that Obama’s early political goals included redistributing suburban wealth–and that he is working closely with old community organizing allies to implement that program as president.
The upshot of Kurtz’s book is that Obama hates suburbs and suburban whites because he thinks white flight is the cause of the problems of racial minorities that remain in inner cities.
Three problems with that:
1. I thought Obama was a racial egalitarian. He can’t on the one hand say the races are equal and then on the other hand say that whites need to be in a given place for it to be successful. Of course, we all know the truth — Even self-styled racial egalitarians know the truth.
2. Remember Patterson’s First Axiom. If white flight would have never happened, the race question in America would have come to a head already. American politics would be as racialized as Mississippi’s, for much the same reason. An alternate universe in 2008 America without white flight and suburbs would have been one that would have never given Barack H. Obama II the time of day, much less serious political power.
3. There is already reverse white flight to core cities. And at the same time, there are quiet concerted efforts to shovel blacks out of core cities. All of that is happening with the countenance of urban politicians of Obama’s political party.
