I think it’s not really black, it’s mulatto. Because #BlackAppliancesMatter

I thought R32 was supposed to solve this problem.

You bring up an interesting topic. My house was built in 2000. The refrigerant used in the original system was Good For The Environment (GFTE) because it was New And Better than the refrigerant for which the patent had expired.

The compressor and condenser (? the thing outside) went bad last year. This GFTE’s patent had expired between 2000 and 2015, so now it was BFTE (bad for the environment) and although there were compatible replacement units available so we could re-use the old gas, I’d have no warranty or service available after January 2020. This is when further use of both fresh or salvaged gas that was GFTE but now BFTE due to expired patents becomes illegal, punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.

I researched this, and found that the HVAC outfits were not pulling a scam; it was all true. So, my $3500 repair became closer to $9,000 due to having to replace everything, and the inside unit being in a very unhandy place.

Those black refrigerators get no respect. You all have White ones don’t you? The discrimination faced by black kitchen appliances is just awful. There should be a NAAAOC, a National Association for the Advancement of Appliances of Color. White refrigerators, White washing machines, White coffee makers, White dishwashers and even the Microwaves are White. Why don’t Obama do nothing about dat huh? Is he color blind? Or does that wookie wife of his not let him into the kitchen?

I looked up the refrigerator whose pic I used. Its color is officially “black stainless steel,” which means it’s the product of an interracial relationship between a black parent and a stainless steel parent. So yes, it is mulatto. But, because of the one drop rule, and our color line sociology, we have to call it black.

It’s the Baraq Obama of refrigerators.

I actually have a black coffee maker, made by Black and Decker. Who dat Decker dude anyway? Is he the Commander that merged with a machine in Star Trek The Motion Picture? I hear he ended up in Seventh Heaven with some Whale Princess.
That black coffee maker makes some damn good coffee. Nice and black too. I add some whole milk but no cream. Maxwell House. Folgers. Starbucks. Dunkin Donuts. Green Mountain. And Tasters Choice. Ah, the sweet aroma. Wake up and smell the coffee before you end up some murder mystery…

I must be an appliance racist; I want my appliances white. They are the easiest to keep neat and clean; they don’t show fingermarks the way most of the stainless stuff does, and is usually the lowest in price. My place came with all stainless stuff. I wish it hadn’t.

Jet black. Absorbs light the best. White reflects too much light, which is also my problem with straight stainless.

I lived in cave-like dark apartments for decades. I have my own home now, and I like things sunny and bright when possible. My alter ego, totem, or whatever, may be the grizzly, but my human side does not do well in caves.

YMMV of course.

I like light to a point, I just don’t need all of it inside.
