Hempstead, New York

Any suggestions on a drinking game?

I’ll be semi-crashing someone’s viewing party, so if I have any live commentary, it will be on the Tweeter.

HOT INITIAL TAKE

* He was better with detail and minutiae, she was better with bromides and generalities. Ordinarily, I’d score that as a win for her, but Trump has had a reputation of not caring about policy wonkery. He showed he can do it when he needs to, so it’s a win for him.

* She looks old, and while he’s a little older than she is, he looked about 10 years younger than he actually is.

* Lester Holt clearly chose sides. The questions and follow-ups were generally dumb.

* Her preening about white racism isn’t going to Q well. Also, it was bad politics for her to oppose SQF like she did, because SQF was good for the city where her campaign headquarters are in. She will win Manhattan and Brooklyn easily, but their white voters, while they would hypocritically complain about crime control measures done anywhere else, want the same things done in their own city. She’s begging for a low turnout from Manhattan and Brooklyn. I had the story earlier today about white liberals in Brooklyn not really warming up to her.

* This hour and a half didn’t do anything for me. And I don’t think it’ll do much for anyone; I don’t think this debate by itself moves the needle in any way, any more than the needle is moving based on other factors.

Shrillary exceeded expectations. She didn’t keel over. Trump didn’t do as well as he should have. (How many times have I said that over the last year?) What will normies think? Who knows? Pretty obvious to us that it was two against one. Will they notice? Will they care? Did any of them watch? Did they understand what they were seeing?

Preliminary conclusion: Trump neither helped nor hurt himself.

CHARLOTTE Kae Roberts and Jay Eardly were leaning toward Hillary Clinton before Monday night’s debate. By the end, they had both pulled away. John Kokos and Hank Federal were undecided going in, potential Clinton backers. By the end, they’d ruled her out.

I think that paragraph is truthful, except for the part about the debate accomplishing it. What really accomplished it? Look at the city name. An event did it, but it wasn’t the one last night, it was the one last week.
