The Folly of Patriotism

The Hill:

Cuban: Paying taxes ‘most patriotic thing you can do as wealthy person’

Billionaire Mark Cuban on Monday slammed Donald Trump for a recent report that said the Republican presidential nominee may have legally avoided paying federal income tax for up to 18 years.

“After military service, the most patriotic thing you can do as a wealthy person is pay your taxes,” Cuban, a vocal supporter of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, said on CNN.

How do I respond?

Easy.  I already have.  In fact, the three times I already have in this space, I’ve gone back and added a new tag to those posts and will apply that tag to this post and any future ones like it:  The Folly of Patriotism.

I could also add in this case that “patriotism” also means funding the central state at some level above one’s pure annual legal obligation, and I guess that also means “treason” means paring down’s one liability to that level.

Nor is serving in the military an act of patriotism, if you are white. It is serving and dying for an entity that despises you and robs, kills, and spits on you at every opportunity. It’s no more patriotic than the service of mercenaries in late Rome.
