Sunday Wrap-Up

20 11 2016

LOCAL AND REGIONAL

* Ferguson being all Ferguson-y again.  The suspect, named Michael Murphy, probably rode to the scene on Wildfire.

* What?  Another Michael Murphy?  We’re gonna need another horse.

* At first I was like:  Messenger, WTF?  Lauding St. Louis County for writing a bunch of tickets when Ferguson was evil for writing a bunch of tickets?  Though in the next paragraph, Messenger does note the irony.

* This stadium…not so hypothetical.  It would be between Union Station and MSD along Market Street on its south bank.  What’s interesting is that this would cost $200 million, and by comparison, the whole no-name dome which is much larger and grandiose only cost $300 million

* This kind of thing was tried in Chicago, with disappointing results.

* TALA Doctrine.

* “Few details are available,” which means just from that we can infer the most important detail.

* “We as an agency killed him.”  See also:  Whoever thought it was a bright idea to have highway patrol officers do water patrol.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION/CAMPAIGN

* Dan Balz brings it all together, in a way that should be very familiar if you’ve been reading me and other alt-right/ish nodes for the last several years.

* “White men with work boots and fuzzy beards.”  And they became a problem and a pejorative…when…?

Ten days ago I wrote here that, contra my pre-election contention that Trump would have no coattails, that not only did he have coattails to downballot, that in some states, there were reverse coattails that extended from downballot up to Trump.  That overall, the coattails were bi-directional.  In Wisconsin, as you can read here, there were bi-directional coattails between Trump and Ron Johnson in the state overall, and depending on the particular part of Wisconsin, they either extended from Trump down to Johnson or from Johnson up to Trump.

* Well, it’s not that drastic, but it is a concern.

* Along those same lines, SV commences its suckup.  Re this, I hope Trump sticks to our side on the H-xB matter.

* They now say late-breakers, but I think that’s mostly their CYA excuse making for their flawed polling techniques.

* If this is any indication, then Bannon wants to formulate a new economic paradigm that triangulates between crony capitalism on one side and modern day Ayn Randian libertarianism on the other side.  Which is badly needed.  Both sides have plenty of differences with each other, and both draw political energy off of the unpopular and distasteful elements of the other.  However, and here I go again with the basketball analogy I first hauled out to describe Trump vis-a-vis the 16 other Republicans, neither crony capitalism nor neo-Randism have the ability to create its own shot.  In that neither one, standing on its own, can win nationally.

* Apropos, somewhat.  Since, controlling for geography, student mock elections were slightly more pro-Trump than the adult voting population, it’s not that parents need to explain the results to their kids, it’s that the kids need to explain the results to their parents.  See also.

Bouncing off of something Stephen Kruiser wrote here, I think the issue with these people worried about what their kids are going think about Trump and the election results are that they were like me, precocious political nerds who really paid attention to these kinds of things at very young ages.  Since they were starting in on political statgeekery and accumulating a personal encyclopedic knowledge of the game and the process as 11-year olds, they presume that every 11-year old of today is doing the same.

* My illegitimate father calls them “double negative voters.”

* No sisterhood, only queen bee syndrome and variants.  Who has been saying that for a long time?

* You needed all this to describe what we random shitposters and shitbloggers can with a simple two word phrase:  Virtue signaling.

Then again, it was worth it, because, just as I found out two years ago that there is a difference between the dictionary definition of “woman” (i.e. an adult female human being) and the political definition of “woman” (i.e. adult female human beings who vote and are not married white gentile cishets with children by her white husband), this tells me that there is a difference between the dictionary and the political definitions of “white men.”

* Speculation over Trump’s NASA policy.  Congressman Jim Bridenstine, a Republican from the Tulsa area, is discussed as a possible NASA administrator.  Curiously, he sponsored a piece of legislation that has “American” and “Renaissance” in the title.  I’d like to think it’s a dog whistle, but it’s most likely just a coincidence.

As far as substance, the only really good argument for the Moon long term is He-3 and far-side radio telescopy.

* Over the weekend, Trump held interviews at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club.  Turns out that he bought the club off of John DeLorean, which means along with golf, one should expect to see DeLoreans going 88 around the streets and drives.

* Oh boy, Michelle Rhee.  Hell naw to the muthafuckin naw.  Not that I have anything really against her personally.  It’s just that I don’t think Trump should be using the office of EdSec to pick sides in the ongoing reformist vs union political battle.  All but one of the other speculated names are also reformists, the only one who is not is Larry Arnn.  Let me back up just a minute — If Arnn has opinions on that matter, he doesn’t go out of his way to make them known.  For what the Feds need to be doing in education in the upcoming handful of years, such as Title IX reform, dismantling the paranoia about the campus rape epidemic, student loan debt relief, college funding and financing reforms, Arnn would be the best possible pick among the ones Trump is said to be seriously considering.

IMMIGRATION

* This probably should be better put in the Trump category, but I already have a lot of stuff there, and very little grub for the immigration plate, so it’s going here.

President Obama is surrendering on the court case over his executive order immigration.

White flag, so soon?

And yet, this is the same man who Rush Limbaugh wants us to think is going to stick around in D.C. to defend vigorously his legacy and somewhat behave as the de facto or alternate President, go squealing to the media who will dutifully show up whenever he wants to bitch about Trump undoing something he did.  I’ve never thought he would do anything like that, because it’s too much like work, and work is something this one does as little of as he needs to.  I’ll restate my predictions about Obama’s immediate future after the White House:  He’ll skip the traditional power handoff ceremony on January 20 and be on a Florida golf course when Trump is taking the oath, (he might have shown up if it was HRC), and on January 20, 2018, the media’s first year out of power stories will ask how it is physically possible for one man to play as much golf as Obama did in the year prior.

* Why is it happening in Lincoln, Nebraska?

Well, look at which stack I included this in.  That should be a hint.

If you need another hint, let’s jump into the Blogmeister Hot Tub Time Machine (no skinny dipping), dial the tub for four and a half years ago, and take a look at this story in this very blog.

Yet another irony:  Mass immigration from anywhere is supposed to be the most Amurrikan thing going, yet we can’t fly Amurrikan flags out of fear of immigrants.

NATIONAL

* Like I’ve been saying, like it always is.

* Neat-o.  This means if only the only kind of institutions that ever hired people were the Federal government civilian force, the U.S. Armed Forces and large corporations, and the only kind of black people who existed were the kind which could (at least somewhat) do those duties, then there would be no race income gap at all.

Too bad actual reality isn’t so neat and clean.

* They don’t call it Byzantine for no good reason.

* World War T is going right down the crapper.

We have to do it to save the environment and because black lives matter, or something like that.

* Minority Report = reporting minorities.

* First off, this happened in Maryland’s capital city, both the vic and his father were/are named Charles Carroll, and that’s the most Maryland-y name possible.

But, back to the modern day and visually very different Charles Carrolls, the father is a preacher who organized gun buyback programs.  Which obviously worked like a charm.

INTERNATIONAL

* “A judge later accused the police, National Health Service and social services of “blinding incompetence” after repeatedly noting the signs of abuse but failing to take action.”

And why do you suppose the police, the NHS and social service agencies looked the other way?  The answer is really easy.

* Duh, when you keep saying that some strange activity is cool, don’t be surprised if a lot of kids and young people start doing it.

* Not really leaving the EU.  As I have been predicting.  I would beat my chest and yell out an interrogatory about hypothetically being your father, but that’s no longer a thing.

* Tony Blair wants to advise the Brexit process?  It means he wants to monkeywrech the Brexit process.

MISC STUFF

* More incoming New Horizons discoveries.  The heart of Pluto is one thing that is indicative of a subsurface ocean of liquid water.

* My oh my, November has not been kind to Mark Zuckerberg.  As a friendly aside, in the first sentence, you spelled “fraud” wrong, it doesn’t start with a C.

* Speaking of, we all know that the supposed “fake news” on Facebook had nothing to do with it.  If you remember, what we were worried about re FB was that they were going to try to goose the election in favor of HRC.  We know this kerfuffle about “fake news” is just one of many excuses that the side that didn’t win are peddling because it is human nature to come up with explanations that don’t require one to engage in critical introspection.  For my money, though, let them believe it.  Let them crack down on “fake news” all they want and let them think that they’ve actually accomplished something.  And when Trump wins re-election in 2020 adding Maine and New Hampshire to the map o’red, we’ll be able to watch them contort themselves even more.

* Thank God for Facebook Live, (continuing on the Zuckerberg theme), though Facebook Live was probably the reason why he did it.

* This being Oklahoma, a state with a pedal to the metal reputation, the highway patrol got suspicious when he was doing over 110.

* “He has Asperger’s Syndrome.”  See also:  About half of the commentariat of the comments sections of most blogs and websites we read.

Trump: “You know, we have to keep our talented people in this country.” – Wrong. We should encourage the “talented” people to pay full-foreign-fare at our universities, and then fuckoff back to whence they came. If only this “problem” extended to bouncyball players…

“He has Aspergers Syndrome” – Is there anywhere we can get no-questions-asked cards to certify this? If so, I’d also like a Tourettes Card, so I can say NIGGER in public more than I already do.

Another late entry. The low information undertow is about to go ablaze. Don’t just grab the popcorn, don’t just call for a popcorn truck, call for a whole convoy of popcorn trucks.

http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2016/11/new_orleans_police_sex_abuse.html

New Orleans police officer Marcellus White’s sexual abuse of underage boys was “pervasive” and “spanned over years,” a warrant for his arrest says.

The New Orleans Police Department placed White, 46, on emergency suspension after his Sept. 23 arrest stemming from the allegation that he raped a 14-year-old relative. He officially resigned from the department on Monday (Nov. 21), police said, the same day as more than a dozen new sex crimes charges involving three more victims were levied against him.
