I Reminded Myself of Something

First off, yes, you can tell from this post’s geographical header that Pugggapalooza Week has begun.

Back to the subject, I wrote here a short while ago this to start a sentence:  “As far as 9600 Newton…”

Have any of you noticed what just occurred to me very recently about the way Millennials speak in terms of dropping a consonant?  The proper way to say “Newton” is of course NEW-tehn.  Most people blow off the T and wind up saying NEW-ehn, with a very slight hint of the T before “ehn.”  Millennials, OTOH, will indeed drop the T, but then make up for it by slightly deemphasizing the first syllable and then being outlandish with the second syllable.  Like this:  New-EEN.

Sometimes, they’ll do mid-word consonant drops by being outlandish with both the first and second syllables.  For example, “eaten.”  It will sound like a a really emphasized E followed by a slightly glossed over but just as ridiculous N.  As in:  E-ehn.

Just pay attention, and it will jump out at you.
