Death threat to ‘kill bus drivers’ written on Detroit transit center bathroom wall
A death threat was found written on a bathroom wall: ‘Kill bus drivers 12-16-13 12:30.’
One longtime Detroit bus driver, who wants to remain unidentified, received a text message from a friend Tuesday afternoon which alerted her to the threat in the men’s bathroom at the Rosa Parks Transit Center.
“You don’t know if the next person getting on your bus is going to be the person that tries to take you out of here,” the bus driver says.
In October DDOT drivers staged a protest asking for greater protection after a rise of attacks on bus drivers. Police Chief James Craig promised officers on board the busses; DDOT said cameras would be installed – and even that didn’t prevent another attack. Bleach was thrown on a bus driver – right in his face.
And now a death threat with a very specific date a time is another thing for bus drivers to be worried about.
“Very unsettling because, first off, we are targets – it seems like, anyway. People get on the bus and they’re mad at something else or somebody else but it’s just easier to take it out on the bus drivers,” another bus driver, Karonise Law, says.
Detroit police say they’re taking the threat seriously. Their Gang Intelligence Surveillance Transit Unit is on the busses undercover. Drivers don’t even know they’re there. Police believe they know who they’re looking for. They’re targeting specific routes and working to keep everyone safe.
Bus drivers say they’ll be on alert and they’re asking their passengers to do the same.
If one of the bus drivers did it to get the extra security they’re demanding, I wouldn’t blame him or her one bit.
But I have another sort of suspect in mind.
Let me put it to you this way: Methinks that some major drug distribution outfit in Detroit is expecting a big shipment from Mexico or points south round about Monday at noon-ish.
Get the cops off the streets and on the buses to prevent them from pulling over the vehicles with the shipments.
It’s why Hispanic drug trafficking gangs set forest fires.
However, if it was a bus driver that wrote it, and he or she is intent on carrying out this threat, it won’t actually happen until somewhere in the 12:35 to 12:40 time frame. How do I know that? Because someone with public transit is promising to be there by 12:30

That scribbling, (along with phone numbers for “women”) was found in the men’s room at a “transit center,” and I take it that that means where a lot of Detroit bus routes congregate in a common point. That probably means a bus driver did it.
Does anyone really believe that the Detroit police have a Gang Intelligence Surveillance Transit Unit?
I don’t even believe there’s a public rest room at the Rosa Parks Transit Center. If there were, who’d be stupid enough to go into it?
(Now, I have never been inside the RPTC, but from the outside the place looks like the architectural equivalent of “trouble waiting to happen.”)
