Barber shop conversation in Wentzville about Connecticut shootings ends with shots fired at customer

WENTZVILLE • A barber shop patron who fired three times at another customer discussing the Connecticut school shooting has been charged with three felonies.

Lester Davis, 57, of the 400 block of Highland Meadows Place is facing charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to police, Davis was at the All Cuts Barber Shop, 102 West Pearce Boulevard, about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday with five other people.

One of the patrons was discussing last week’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, and commented that the incident “makes me want to murder the suspect,” police said.

For unknown reasons, Davis took the comment as a threat and asked, “You want to murder me?” Davis then walked out to his Volkswagen sedan, retrieved a loaded Smith & Wesson 9 mm pistol and fired three times in the customer’s direction, police said.

Turns out it wasn’t for “unknown reasons” that Davis took it as a personal threat.  Keep reading.

Davis said “I’ll let you slide,” walked out of the barber shop and drove off in his car, police said.

He later turned himself in to police.

According to court records, Davis is a felon, convicted of second-degree homicide and unlawful possession of a weapon in Middlesex County, N.J., in 1975. Records further state he has been involved in numerous verbal altercations with neighbors, resulting in an order of protection being issued against him.

He told police that the gun he used belongs to his wife.

Bail in Davis’ case is set at $400,000 cash only.

The reason Wentzville, which would seem on maps to be a boring white bread suburb, has a mini-ghetto, is because when the GM plant closed in North City and Corvette manufacturing moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky so many years ago, GM built a new St. Louis facility that has been mainly trucks and vans in Wentzville.  Unfortunately, many of the black workers followed GM to Wentzville and planted themselves there.

Even if the gun he used belonged to his wife, as a convicted felon, he’s not allowed to possess it.  Which means the wife can possess it, but he can never use it.  But since he had it in his car, this means he did actively take possession of it at some point in the day yesterday.
