Some time late afternoon yesterday local time, after a judge basically ordered them to do so, a system begged them to do so, and left wing domestic terrorists threatened them with violence if they didn’t do so, provided they didn’t already have the incumbent predilection to do so, a Manhattan jury convicted Donald J. Trump of the crime of first degree existing.
Oh don’t worry, I already know how all this is going to end. With and at Augustus.

My instinct for the last year is that Trump will lose the 2024 election. However, Trump has been polling better this year than ever before.
If Trump wins, it will be because Biden is so bad.
This has created another and parallel imperative for the RN/VP vetting team.
Already, they had to ignore the usual “balance” factors and lean on the side of Presidential gravitas, based on the reality that the RN/VP has a much higher chance of being President of the United States some time in the next four years, compared to the typical seat warmer warm bucket of spit VP.
Now they also have to consider the possibility that Trump will be both President of the United States AND on Rikers Island on 1/20/25.
It means that this RN/VP pick will functionally be the President of the United States, with staff and Secret Service taking the paperwork to Trump in his jail cell so he can put his John Hancock on it.
And yet, today, I’m more concerned with Mannheim than Manhattan.
On Greta Van Susteren’s show on Newsmax today, she discussed Trump’s sentencing scheduled for July 11. Van Susteren said the usual procedure for a defendant of Trump’s age (78) and lack of a criminal record, he should get probation, presumably until the appeal is decided.
Van Susteren’s guest, a former prosecutor, predicted the judge will sentence Trump to jail. In other words, he’ll order Trump handcuffed and sent to Riker’s.
And occupy a prison cell through November.
Any system crazy enough to go this far and do this much isn’t suddenly going to stop being crazy on the next step. So of course he’s going to Rikers. My bet is that at or close to the legal maximum. If not that, at the very least, until January 21, 2025.
Like I wrote on the socials, the political calculus afoot is to get him incarcerated until after inauguration day, scream CONVICTED FELON on repeat until November, hope it works. If it “works,” i.e. Biden gets re-“elected” (honk honk), then on January 21, he’ll get out, and the higher courts will overturn everything and call the bullshit on it that everybody knows it is.
All that really matters to me now is who and what is going to be the Augustus in this matter, and how soon.
The former prosecutor Greta had on is named Jacob Kaplan. I looked him up on the internet and he’s at Brafman & Associates in New York City and is one of the “Super Lawyers.” Kaplan graduated from Fordham Law in 2004, so is in his mid-40s. His specialty is “White Collar Crimes, Criminal Defense, Appellate.”
Kaplan evidently spent a couple of years in the DA’s office to get some trial practice and then went to a big firm, standard career track in a place like New York City. He’s appeared regularly on Greta’s show during this trial.
Greta was somewhat shocked by this but Kaplan spoke with assurance that he expected the judge to send Trump to jail.
Greta Van Susteren has denounced this prosecution of Trump from the start.
